Description

All your RockHounding needs in one App separated in 4 easy to use sections. Features a large database of over 160 sites and over 60 rocks and gems with full screen pictures. Add your own sites to personalize the App or include your own finds.

SITES - With over 160 sites, you can choose a site with the Map that also shows your location, or with the List which is separated by State. Each site has a description of the area and what you may find there. By tapping on the Map button of the site, you can see the location of the site with a Green pin point and your location is the blue circle. This may help you in finding new sites. You can even add your own sites by plotting the GPS coordinates on the map and using your own site icon created from the Photo Library. RockHound was not intended to be a complete guide to every site, but with the ability to Add sites and also Submit them for future version releases the number of sites could be increased. Sites are not limited to locations in the US, they could be from anywhere in the world.

ROCKS - Over 60 different rocks, minerals, gems with description and pictures of each.

TIPS - General tips about RockHounding, Tools needed, Rock Tumblers. There are also program tips like "Submitting your own Sites" so that they may be released with future versions of RockHound!

FAVORITES - You have the option to select sites as Favorite Sites. The Favorite Sites can have pictures attached to them that you import from your Photo Library. That way you can keep track of what you find at each site. By tapping on the Map button of the site, you can see the location of the site with a Green pin point and your location is the blue circle.

Lacks information

Truly a poor example of a rock encyclopedia. This app could be improved easily by adding diagnostic characteristics of each of the minerals (hardness, streak, cleavage, luster). Instead, a select few minerals are listed, with a paragraph description.

If you are looking for something to study from, this is NOT your app.

My review

This app is great all it needs is better pictures but it's really hand especially when your going camping or diving

Worth it!

Not the most comprehensive mineral encyclopedia, but DEFINATELY worth it just for the map of known sites to hunt :)
