What's New in Version 4.0
Redbox app has been updated with a beautiful, improved new design for iOS 7
UPDATE: A BIG step back...
The latest version 'designed for iOS' is a step back for me. Visually it's appealing, but the new version is missing a KEY feature for me (having been removed, it existed in the last version). That feature, the ability to see a MAP of kiosks that do or don't have a movie. Now when you select a title that may have limited ability you get a flat list (with starred kiosks first) and one can click on 'View in map' and it takes you to a map, but it just highlights the kiosk. I want to be able to see a map of kiosks that do or don't have a title. This is particularly helpful when you're somewhere you don't know well and you can see what's close and/or might be easier to get to. Just bc a location is closer doesn't mean it's easier to get to...
UPDATE: was just looking for a movie on the new version (Thor on BD) and the current version of the app was telling me it wasn't available at one of my 'favorites'. Talked to my wife and said, "See if there's something else you might like and I'll get it!" 5 minutes later she txts and tells me that Thor on BD is available at one of out kiosks. She's running the OLD version of the app. I looked again (bc she wasn't logged in) and it was showing as not available. HUGE FAIL REDBOX!! One star...
Now can be called useful
Multi-tasking? But why? Do I want it to run in the background? Draining battery by a movie app is bizarre - at least until it allows me to disable it _and_ is disabled by default.
This can be a very useful app when you sit in a restaurant next to a RedBox trying to figure out what's for (after?) dinner - a lot more fashionable than standing in front of a _red_ box outside 7-Eleven, not to say less damage by sun rays from above and unspoken impatience radiated from behind. Trailers in this update makes the app truly useful. (RedBox must have seen the $$ sign:-)
But it can be more useful if it allows additional research in-app like Siri (not a dedicated entertainment app) does. Case in hand: reviews from 3rd party sites.
Regina display support looks beautiful, but is marginally interesting given the size of cover art.
Last update for the Redbox app
The last update for iOS and Redbox leaves me unimpressed. This update removed a key feature having to do with the maps of kiosks. After finding a movie to rent I used to go to the map section to find a kiosk that had the movie. The kiosks on the map would be all the available locations that Redbox currently had kiosks, some would be "gray" indicating the movie was unavailable and so would be "red" indicating the movie could be reserved. Now when trying to reserve a movie for future pick up the app shows you a list of available locations and then allows you to see a map of that location but does not allow you to select other kiosks from the map view. This is extremely annoying as this function was in the previous version and this has now resulted in me not renting from Redbox.
