Frustrating and buggy
I'm in agreement with the other reviews. This app should be easy to use, but it isn't.
Half the time it doesn't recognize your password and locks you out for 30 minutes. This is a huge issue that hasn't been addressed. I don't even know how many years, but this bug still has not been fixed!
The app doesn't let you search for genres of movies. You have to know the title of what you're looking for. You still may not find it because redbox doesn't input the all the movie titles accurately.
And there is absolutely no reason for Redbox to know where I physically am 24 hours a day. That is spy-zone action right there.
A major flaw of the app is that you can't just look for a movie or game in a town of area. You must log into EACH individual Redbox kiosk. That is the most moronic thing ever.
I think Redbox is a great value. But their app and website are hot garbage. It's faster to drive to a Redbox kiosk than to ever deal with them online.
Now usable, but why run in background?
Redbox provides good value, but Redbox app began as unusable. It has made good progress, so I am giving 3 stars. Here is a big problem and a big wish:
- The app runs and uses location service in the background. Who wants Redbox in the background? It just wastes battery.
- The app could be a lot more useful if it gathers viewer reviews from e.g., Rotten Tomatoes and MVDB; just an aggregate will go a long way, a link would be nicer.
This app is in serious need of some improvements. Repeatedly it displays movies as available at a certain location only to get to the checkout process and receive a message it is no longer available at the location. Go back 10 or 15 mins later and the movie is still reflected as available at that location. Poor job of tracking inventory and very unreliable.
