Commander Compass is an essential offline GPS app for outdoors and off-road navigation. Packed with tools it serves as a hi-tech compass with maps, gyrocompass, GPS receiver, waypoint tracker, speedometer, altimeter, Sun, Moon and star finder, gyro horizon, and coordinate converter. It saves your custom places and waypoints, navigates precisely to them later, shows them on maps, displays detailed GPS info, measures distances, angles, and does a lot more.
COMPASS & GYROCOMPASS
Accuracy improvement techniques, special compass modes and calibration methods available in Commander Compass only make it a real instrument – the most advanced and accurate digital compass.
FINDER, TRACKER & NAVIGATION
Commander Compass operates in 3D to show real-time object positions, info and directions to them overlaid over maps or a simple background.
Save current position, add points from maps, manually enter location coordinates and bearings, add stars by hand or use a built-in star catalogue.
Find saved places and objects later simply by following directional arrows.
Commander Compass tracks multiple targets simultaneously and shows their info – distance, direction, azimuth, elevation and estimated time of arrival.
Copy, paste and share locations, coordinates and map links using many supported formats.
GPS, SPEEDOMETER & ALTIMETER
Find and track your location and get detailed real-time GPS data – coordinates in dozens of formats, altitude, course, current, maximum and vertical speed, using imperial, metric, nautical and surveying units.
MAPS
See your and targets’ positions on maps using different map styles and alternative map providers – plan waypoints and measure distances.
NAVIGATE BY STARS
Track positions of stars, Sun and Moon with arc second precision – use them as a reference to calibrate compass for maximum accuracy.

In the app settings, you can now select a retina-optimized map source “OSM @ Happymagenta”.
Improved recognition of coordinate input allows you now to copy and paste, or type in coordinates in a more convenient way. Non-standard symbols that can be used to indicate minutes and seconds of a degree will now be properly interpreted.
Additionally, you can now copy and paste, or type in coordinates with minute and second symbols omitted when the degree symbol is present:
N 37° 41.501 W 97° 20.282 will be recognized as N 37° 41.501' W 97° 20.282'
N 37° 41 30.06 W 97° 20 16.92 will be recognized as N 37° 41' 30.06" W 97° 20' 16.92"
3.7.11
· compatible with latest iOS and new devices · sub-meter GPS accuracy · improved detection of coordinates in copied text · improved resolution of taken screenshots · lots of smaller improvements and bug fixes
Sub-meter, sub-foot, sub-yard, 5-digit accuracy kilometers and miles are now available as short distance units in the app settings. Smaller units are now only used for short distances while higher precision kilometers and miles are also used for long distances. Send us your thoughts if you have an external sub-meter GPS and want this feature improved further.

Sharing your location and waypoints
Long tap (tap and hold) the main app screen for a current location menu – send your current location coordinates and URL link via Mail, SMS or Messages – saved waypoints can be sent from detail views using export menus.
You may now choose the coordinate and URL format to send in settings – send the location or waypoint information using the format supported by an app on the other end, so your wife or mate could just tap the link to start navigating to your location.
You may also copy coordinates or links in any of supported formats from Mail, SMS, web pages or anywhere – then just paste them into the app – it understands everything it sends or exports.
Units, formats and coordinate converter
Units and all coordinate systems aren’t just simply supported – whenever the app asks you to enter location coordinates, or distances, or sizes you may use any of supported formats or units and your input will be automatically converted into the current format – you may also launch the built in coordinate converter using the “(i)” menu.
When you need to type in location coordinates using a different coordinate system, or to type in distances or sizes using different units, there is no need to reconfigure the app – just type or paste using that different coordinate format or units.
Use any of DMS formats for either geodetic latitude or longitude. When you need to enter grid reference coordinates or both the latitude and longitude coordinates into a single field – use any of supported formats. For distances and sizes just follow the number with the unit abbreviation – type “10 yd 1 ft” and it will be automatically converted into your current units.

This is a powerful app with a whole book dedicated to its capabilities.
Trying to use this app to save a position then guide you back is not reliable. It will often point you in a direction that is inaccurate by 180°. Recommend, but beware of its inaccuracy if you're relying on it for more than curiosity and amusement.

Usually the compass accuracy is fine outdoors and only a basic figure 8 motion is enough to calibrate it. However, in buildings and vehicles the accuracy can be low due to interference, magnets, big metallic objects and so on. Being aware of that I designed the app in a way to overcome hardware accuracy issues. First, you can always verify the direction accuracy against a celestial object such as the Sun, the Moon or a star. Second, there are several compass modes available, including special: 1) (pure) magnetic - copies iOS stock compass and shows what the hardware tells; 2) (uncalibrated) gyrocompass - a gyroscope assisted magnetic mode (recommended as default); 3) calibrated gyrocompass - to measure or to take direction; 4) car - GPS compass mode that uses the movement course for use in vehicles or while walking. Watch videos our the app web site - they show how it works.

needs an easier delete button
I’m still looking for a delete or remove function to get rid of points or locations I don’t need anymore. Having to sift thru useless points to find important ones can take time, so an easy Remove/Delete Waypoint/Location feature would be highly beneficial.

The UI redesign is planned for the 2018 and will bring much of usability improvements. Until then you can use the "pencil" button at the bottom of the waypoint list for easier deletion of waypoints.

Cool, but....
There’s a lot of stuff in this app. However, I can not get past verifying the compass reading. It must be that my hardware is sending the wrong data to the app because the reading are 30 degrees off. I have checked location services and verified it is calibrating. The app shows that it is not Calibrated but no amount of twisting helps. Would like a suggestion on what to do from the developer.
