Remember building a solar system in high school? Cups and papier-mache balls are in the past, because Solar Walk is an interactive orrery that shows all planets and satellites of the solar system in their correct positions in real time.
This 3D solar system model lets you navigate between planets, see their positions on a specific date, explore how they move and why. You will see the entire Milky Way galaxy from a far and zoom in to study all the planets and satellites in close-up, learn their trajectories, inner structures, history of their exploration, and geography.
Every planet has extensive information: size, mass, orbital velocity, exploratory missions, thickness of structural layers, and composition of atmosphere.
“Can’t-miss app.” - Mashable
“Solar Walk serves up a visually impressive 3D model of our solar system. Set against a haunting, atmospheric soundscape, the app shows planets and satellites in their correct positions, and offers mini movies, facts and other related tidbits.” - TNW
“This jaw-dropping app provides a wholly interactive 3D model of our solar system, one that’s had me hooked for days. It’s the kind of thing you can imagine a science teacher using in the classroom of the future — except that we don’t have to wait.”
“Zoom from Mercury to Pluto (which makes the cut in this app), passing each planet’s moons along the way. Because Solar Walk knows what time it is, the planets are in proper orientation to the Sun: Earth is dark where it is currently night and gradually lightens to daytime on the other side.” - NY Times

Incredible App! BUT...
Vito Technology guys, this is an incredible app (especially after downloading all the upgrades)! It's all very realistic and when orbiting around the Earth it feels like you're actually floating up in space.
However, there's always room for improvement, and if you ever feel like updating the app there's a few things I would enjoy seeing overhauled.
Firstly the stars don't look as good as they could. They're all the same size and are just dim dots. Making them look more like the stars in Star Walk 2 with the lens effect would improve the aesthetic of the app.
When zoomed in near the solar system, the surrounding image of the Milky Way is a bit dull and blurry, and could use an upgrade. This also goes for the rendering of the entire Milky Way when zoomed out all the way. I think it should be more vibrant and clearer / crisper.
Anyway, if you guys do any of these things that'd be amazing! And if not, the app is still awesome!
Amazing for kids and adults!
My 5-year old chose Solar Walk over the kids version of Star Walk, and I'm glad he did. There is so much to explore here! The relationships of the planets, moons, comets, etc. provides an excellent perspective for anyone who likes to learn.
My only complaint is a minor one: there is no way to buy all of the add-ons at once. Also it's a little annoying seeing the add-ons constantly advertising themselves.
Otherwise a totally amazing app and worth the price.
The app is delightful to use, but has at least one issue regarding the download of the in app purchases. I chose to add some of the features such as improved graphics of the Earth, Mars etc. My purchase was made easily enough. However, when I proceeded to download those purchases, I ended up having to sit at my iPad with finger ready to press "Resume" for however long it would take to get the IAP to load. It would not load the upgrades in the background. After a few minutes, it would stop, and I had to press "Resume" again and again.
