New design is utterly terrible.

First time I went back into my library from the book I was reading after the change, I thought the iBooks app was glitching and stopped displaying the bookshelf background. A bit of googling later I discovered that this was the "new design". Not really sure if you can even call it a design as it's just mainly white with a dash of gray gradient. Whoever thought this was a good idea should be taken out back and shot. If you're going to do something this drastic to an app a lot of us have grown to love, at least give people the option to revert back to the old theme. Solutions: 1) Instead of a ghastly white page with some sort of line "holding" the books, allow a themes feature for the library (sort of like we have while in a book) and allow people to select from a decent selection of library backgrounds, the original being one of them. 2) Please revert the highlighting back to the orifinal organic style and with the previous colors & opacities. The new colors are too strong, cold, and mechanical. - - At least to me, one of the main draws of iBooks from the onset was the feeling of reading a REAL book. The option to make it look like a book, the page turns, the highlighting that appears as though it could have been made by a previous owner... All these things remind us what we love about books. You guys turned the app into some cold access terminal one might find on the lower deck of a ship bound for parts of nameless outerspace.

Tragic design for minimalism

I believe reading books is a nostalgic and a tactile interaction with a medium that is largely outmoded today, yet still greatly beloved by many for its methodical and engaging experience of multiple senses from smell to feel. While the original iBooks has been a transformative means of enabling leisure reading on an electronic device, it managed to retain the familiar with page curls, visual texture cues, etc. Which brings to this travesty of an 'upgrade.'

I absolutely despise reading on this new app, the lack of a divider between pages is confusing. The same page can appear on both the left and the right side of the page, in the same sitting. I know skeumorphism is dead and being phased out and all that, but books are like vintage cars. You can't take out the vintage details without retaining the vintage feel of an automobile. The new iBooks app makes reading books feel like reading PDF files, because there is no sense of style, reading a book anymore. It's not a novel you're reading, it's a company collated handbook that looks any other handbook from kinkos or staples. This is huge backward step backwards, even as the Forstall chapter closes on apple's software design. You took to much out, and now the app feels unfinished rather than refined and minimalist. Steve Jobs would be yelling at you guys for pushing out this half assed crap. I want to read a book , not read off copy paper or toiletry.

One star only because it won't post with ZERO

I finally upgraded from an original iPad (you know, the one everyone got for a holiday gift and the iPad2 was released in something like Feb. or mom was dying, knew nothing about them, but saw one & thought it was "neat",and as her last gift she bought everyone in the family an iPad). I don't have the availability to be updated this far on that iPad, and honestly, I have more problems on this than that one. It still randomly shuts down on me. Now, I can't read a full synopsis if it's too long as the ...more function no longer works there. I still can't buy a book from it's synopsis page, it has to be in a list...and since this iPad Air (my second...first one replaced 2weeks ago, when I dropped it & the screen broke), and I've had the same problem on all three I'd say the software is definitely at fault!! The original iPad is a lot heavier with its case and just being older, but, I'll be honest, I prefer reading on that one to this one, even with a considerably earlier version of iBooks. I can't see much functionality improvement, and the cosmetic changes should be more user-flexible than less. If we just don't happen to like white, give us the option of some themes or even third-party skins! And, for the love of Pete, put the clock back!
