Sub-par magazine app

The first problem with this app is that it doesn't seem to understand the difference between the "store" and the "library". Let me explain. The store should show you issues which you have not purchased yet. The library should show you issues which you have already purchased and which you may download, if not already on the device. Here is no reason for these two lists to overlap at all. This app, however, shows both kinds of issues in both places.

Because SI is a weekly magazine, this lack of distinction between store and library makes it hard find issues you purchased in the past. You might have to scroll past literally hundreds of other issues you don't own to find a particular one you do.

Another problem seems to be that the application does not make any attempt to cache cover thumbnails. And because it's a weekly magazine with four or five issues every month, there are a lot of cover thumbnails. It almost always gets bogged down downloading them, making the app slow and unresponsive at times.

Other than that, my chief complaint is that the images are not quite high enough resolution for the iPad's retina display.

These problems demand your attention to some degree nearly every single time you use the app.

Great App

I work in software development and recognize that challenges seen when using any software can be the result of poor programming by the app developer or, more likely, technical limitation with connectivity on my end or, in some cases, user error. The SI iPad app has excelled in my opinion despite sometimes thinking it had frozen up or my online magazines had disappeared for some inexplicable reason. Patience. Back end data with upgrades can sometimes lag slightly...and, I've found, in this world of immediacy, if I simply pause for a few moments and allow things to update in a reasonable amount of time, all in the universe is good...great in fact as with the SI app.

works, but deleted my library

Gave it 2 stars because I don't see what the need is for the app upgrade, and can't figure out what genius decided that the upgrade should force us to redownload all previously downloaded issues. I haven't actaully read a full issue yet because all of the issues I had downloaded were apparently removed from my ipad with the upgrade, so I have to figure out which ones I need and download them again. Major hassell. But from what I've seen the magazine looks pretty good and issues read more or less as they did in the previousl version of the app.

On first launch mine too appeared to freeze, same problems that others have reported. I quit the program, restarted, and then it prompted me to first log into my itunes account and then my SI account. I'm a print subscriber so I've long since figured out my digital SI account, thus this wasn't a problem for me.
