Saving Star has never had a ton of offers, but their $5 payout limit made up for that fact. In fact, I used to recommended the app to friends just starting out in the rebate app game; the quicker payout was encouragement to keep at it (I have many friends who earned a few bucks on other apps but then gave up because $20 seemed unattainable). It would still take me a little time to reach the point where I could cash out on Saving Star, but it was doable. Now it’s $20?!! That’s acceptable for an app like Ibotta that has hundreds of offers and monetary bonuses, but really not cool from a smaller app. And jumping from $5 to $20? How about go to $10 first? Granted, Saving Star Has increased the number of offers as time has gone on. So that helps. But a lot of them are variations on the same product. And there’s frequently quite a few products/brands I’ve never heard of and can’t find. And the local chain store I do the majority of my shopping at (Raley’s) isn’t on their list, though they’ve told me they hope to add it soon. I generally have to send an email with pics if I hope to earn from my Raley’s purchases, which is kind of a pain (though I Will say I have always received pleasant customer service, so I will give them a star for that). The jump to $20 just strikes me as a way to avoid paying out (hoping people will give up and walk away from what they have Earned), which is disappointing and kind of sleazy.

Hello. Thank you so much for this feedback. We raised our payout to $20 in order to stay in line with industry and competitor standards. We have added many new offers to try to offset the payout increase. We also have Always On Rewards programs with unlimited savings and our One or Many offers with have big dollar rewards to help get you to a payout faster. I hope you will stick with us as we hope to add even more new rebates to the sites as the weeks go on. If you like what you see, please consider increasing your star rating. Thank you for using SavingStar!

I've had this App for literally over 4 years and my ending balance before closing my account was a whopping $1.85. I've never cashed out previously so that is the total of my earning/rebate for all those years. I randomly get a email last week telling me that if I am not active on the app then the company will start deducting money from my balance until it reaches zero. When I emailed them and asked to close the account and cash me out, they said they closed my account (which they did not because my account is still active on my app) and they said if I wanted me rebate money I would have to start my account again and reach at least $5. I've been trying to earn back for over 4 years and still couldn't hit that $5 mark. The rebates are only for corporate junk foods anyways and it takes too much effort to link all your accounts for minima rebates here and there. If you want an App that is worthwhile try out EasyShift or iBotta instead, this SavingStar is a joke and a rip-off.

Update: it's been over a month since I wrote this and after my email correspondence and questions, as well as the response to my review, I can also say the customer service is inefficient and my questions were never answered nor was my problem helped/solved. Negative stars.

Hello. Thank you for the feedback. We are adding new offers to the service weekly. As per our terms of service, inactivity fees kick in after 180 days. However, keeping your account active is very easy. Simply activate or redeem an offer on the website or in the mobile app.

I’ve had this app for several years and earned about $70. The other coupon app I have had for about the same time and I’ve earned 10 times that amount! This app doesn’t have a lot of coupons & lots are products I’ve never seen, simply can’t find or I have no interest. It’s not user friendly, there’s no categorization so I can quickly look up what produce coupon I have activated or if I want to scan what’s available. Very little updates in the years I’ve been using.

My biggest beef is when I submit I have to be proactive to see if my account was credited. Very picky on the pictures. What am I supposed to do if the grocery store prints the receipt on wrinkled paper? It’s still legible!! Pictures have difficulty focusing & the issue is site related

Also the scanner has trouble pulling up the products too often. It has trouble focusing and it’s not my phone. I can’t figure out why. It’s a flat product. I often cancel and have to keep trying later, which means I don’t always get to it. It’s disappointing
