Terrible App HBO Completely Missed the Mark
One of the WORST UI's I've ever used in an app. Compared to the competition such as the sho time app this doesn't even come close. Trying to use this app to stream is a joke. The app disconnects from streaming seconds after starting a show or movie, try adjusting the volume or fast forwarding and your in for a real treat! You have to close the app out then reconnect then find the show you've been trying to watch just to go to the next episode after each viewing. In all honesty using this app makes for a completely miserable experience. You would think with a company like HBO you would have a well thought out and developed app , but what they've created is a total mess and an overall failure. This app seems like something they just threw together as an after thought with total disregard to their customers and the every day user. Obviously HBO could care less about this app and it's customers because they clearly aren't paying attention to all the negative reviews and 1 star ratings that plague the review section in the App Store. Hopefully HBO wakes up and makes some improvements in the near future, or better yet even care to do so in the first place.
I have no problems with the content or accessibility, the issue I have is with the streaming interface. I utilize my smart TV, connected via wifi, and directed by my smart phone. Initially, it will connect without incident, and play the content I choose. However, anytime the app is closed and re-opened the streaming connectivity appears to be lost. As long as I haven't closed the app yet, I can see in timeline of the video and utilize all other modifications (volume, cc, etc.); however all these capabilities are lost once the app is exited and reopened (regardless of the duration between these actions). The only way to solve the issue is to restart the app by closing it out and restarting it. I use the IOS version.
Under optimal conditions, it's near perfect
I'm updating my year old review, it's still chugging along. I use it mostly for series, an occasional movie. I do wish HBO would add older series and most of the movies are pretty average, but this is a review of the app, not the content.
The 10 second skip forward lets you blast past the "On the last episode" recaps and the 10 second "what did he say?" rewinds are perfect. The image was crystal clear, the sound really good considering the iPad's speakers.
