Invader Zurp is a unique first-person, on-rails physics shooter. A completely original game concept like you have never seen before. You are Zurp, "Destroyer of Worlds" tasked with raining down mighty destruction from planet to planet. Your ship cruises over the planetary surface and you are tasked with choosing targets for super-intelligent smart bombs to home in on and destroy.
The game mechanic is deceptively simple. See something you want to shoot? Just touch it. That's it. There is plenty for you shoot, that's for sure. Milk points by scoring awesome mid-air hits on blocks. Protect yourself against defensive turrets by intercepting their missiles. Score full ammo reloads by finding the 3 hidden gold blocks in every structure. In this simplicity lies a deeper strategy of finding the right balance between these choices so that you can continually upgrade your ship and survive the increasingly difficult onslaught.
The game is all about MOMENTUM. More destruction means more money which means more upgrades which means more destruction, repeat. The core game mechanic is simple but Invader Zurp offers a really compelling, skill-based challenge curve seen more often on old school shooters.
Once you have gotten the hang of things, rack up massive money by chaining gold block or turret destruction streaks together. Use that money to permanently upgrade your ship and its capabilities so that you can eventually lay waste to all 100 waves of buildings. Then explore the unlocked Speed Modifiers and the recursively difficult Infinite Mode.

Great old school replay shooter action
Having a ton of fun with this game. Reminds me of a Space Harrier meets Blokus. Basically you are flying forward going from stage to stage. A stage is a preset of stacked blocks that you hurl your missiles towards. The object is to destroy the turrents shooting at you and to shoot 3 cubes to refill your missile tank. Doing this each level mutliply your scores and really the only way to advance to deeper levels of the game.
Like a reviewer said in the beginning it is tough to upgrade your ship and can be a little frustrating running out of missile constantly but with some patience you'll earn cogs ( currency ) quickly. Be prepared to play level 1 A LOT! There are IAP which will speed things up but not necessary if you have the time to repeat level 1 over and over to earn cogs to upgrade your ship. The nice touch is the levels within the stage are randomized.
Overall I'd say this is good mindless fun and a good example of touch gaming on the ipad. One thing it is really really lacking are Space Harrier type boss battles. I would pay for that.

This game isn't good at all.
The gameplay is fun (kind of), but it is extremely frustrating. Half the time you can't even hit the enemy that is shooting at you, and the other half of the time your missiles will just fly all over the place, especially when attacking fast.
In terms of upgrades, this game is obviously meant to be freemium. The smallest purchase is 3500 cogs, but to get 3500 cogs while playing normally, good luck. I averaged about 120 cogs per round, and one round is 15-20 minutes. (That's almost 6 hours to get 3500 cogs, and that's not much at all) Not to mention, you don't advance in the level unless you complete the previous level completely, and to complete level 2 without buying upgrades, you will need to play level 1 again so you can get the free upgrades from it. So expect to play level 1 again and again and again and again and again, just so you can get to level 2 just to die from the imbalance and be forced to play level 1 again.
The graphics aren't terrible, but they are very awkward. The whole game you are automatically moving forward on a flat surface, and the blocks just don't fit with the environment.
Why 2 stars? The music is good.
Unique, Fun, and worth every penny
When I saw Invader Zurp in the Store, I gave it a try. I wasn't expecting it to be so accessible. It starts out mild, but the sheer volume of possible projectiles ramps up exponentially as you play. I love the ability to customize my offensive, defensive, and progressive stats.
Each obstacle is fun and the unlockables has given me a great reason to come back and play again and again. I totally recommend downloading this game and giving a shot (pun intended).
