Imaginative take on a classic game
Having grown up with Centipede ever since the original hit the arcades back when I was in grade school, I'm thoroughly delighted to see this latest version work so smoothly. Like Pac-Man, I have seen/played so many variations throughout a lifetime of Centipede's existance, and this is one that improves on the original without sacrificing the easy addicting gameplay so essential to it.
I'm unsure at the moment as to whether there's an option to adjust how quickly you can move across the screen, so for now I'm docking a star. Meanwhile, its overall fantasy-style presentation (which harkens back to the outer cabinet illustrations on Centipede II) reminds me strongly of the freebie "Centipede" comic that came bundled with the original Atari 2600 cartridge of the game (those of you who encountered it will know exactly what I'm talking about). Also, it's great to see that firing is now *finally* automatic, which especially makes sense on an iPhone (did anyone EVER take their hand off the Fire button in ANY version of the game? It might as well have never existed and been automatic anyway!). A fun purchase for on-the-go or even lounging around.
At this rate I'd say the Nintendo handheld's days are severely numbered.......
"Centipede: Origins Review"
Though this is ABSOLUTELY killing me to say, I go back to when the original "Centipede" was an arcade game. I enjoyed playing it then even though I found the ball that was used to maneuver your shooter a bit on the awkward side to control, and I enjoy it more now. I find maneuvering the shooter by sliding him in whatever direction you want him to go much easier to control than that ball in the original arcade game ever was and I like how this is a more elaborate version of the game without taking away from the original concept of it. It is really nicely done! I honestly expected to get nothing more than the basic original version of this game made to work for an iPad and that was it so it was really a nice surprise to see the new modified version. This game is DEFINITELY worthy of five-stars and I would have given it more if I could have. I also gave it a "like" for Facebook too. Please eep up the wonderful work!
Oh my gosh I Love this game! When I was surfing my apps. In the iTunes store I was shocked to fine it. I used to play it daily back in the day. It takes me back to old school days when kids played these kind of video games at your local, town game station places. Where you & some or all your friends would go after school with the $$ you were supposed to buy your lunch with, but instead went to the Arcade after school. I think you've done an excellent job with making this game & making it available for my iPad! It's funny when I tell my kids we played it on Atari & they get that blank look on their face & say " what"? Great fun!!!
