Mediocre update

long time subscriber, love the publication. If your reading this to judge content i fully recommend. I give 3 stars purely bc of the work, the app itself is like. 1 star. Its rare that an update makes things worse but this did. Aesthetically its uglier and more clunky than the previous version like they removed the polish and sheen from the layout. One thing i always wanted was bookmarking as i force close my apps and always have to cycle back through. This version has it but it doesn’t actually work. I press the star but that does nothing at all. Even “last article read” has no clue what article i read so a big fat boo on that. Locking the options menu on the top is a terrible idea it should go back to only coming up on a long or force touch and preserve real estate. That criticism ties in to Night Mode, which was great but now, even though the article is in night mode the locked options menu on the top is still breaker no but it does show a certain laziness or lack of detail work on a finished product. This is a quality publication that we pay for willingly and even have the option to go digital only, so why wouldn’t we be treated with a high end application befitting of this rather than so junky app reminiscent of a free download circa 2008?

Latest Software Unusable

First off let me say: I love The Week and am a longtime digital subscriber. The software for reading the magazine on the iPhone has never been very good, but a recently pushed version makes it unusable for me. I own an iPhone X which obviously has a long screen. I always read The Week with a black background and white text. Now there are two super white bars at the top and bottom of the screen that cannot be eliminated. In addition, you can’t make the text larger on the iPhone X. (There’s small, medium, and large, but the “large” is the same as the “medium.” What gives?) The description of the magazine in the App Store touts that The Week has been updated to work well on iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. No 7? No 8? No X? All that said, if the publishers want to buy me a new iPad (which I think is “their” preferred reading platform) I’d consider continuing my subscription. But I love reading on my iPhone: it’s super light and portable and I don’t really want to read on an iPad. I’m sorry to write such a negative review, but the most recent version of the app is, simply, a disaster on the iPhone X.

New app update worse in nearly every way

I’ve been a subscriber of the Week for roughly 10 years and my preferred format has always been the app on my iPad. I love the magazine but the app update just released in last two weeks is awful. It sounded very promising with features like the ability to search multiple issues for specific content. Unfortunately, the user experience in simply reading the content is maddening. It doesn’t remember where you left off, navigating to a specific place is a pain, you can’t change the font size (all three sizes are the same actual size), the library showing back issues is cumbersome, it has a perpetual reminder about how to login with the new app even though I’m logged in, and about a hundred other frustrating things. Please, I’m begging you as a long term, loyal subscriber to your magazine, just back out the “update” and let us return to the old format and user interface. Yes, it had some bugs and limitations but it was a million times better than this new one.
