Approachable, absorbing and visually impressive yet detailed, Battle Academy aims to revolutionise the strategy games market with a blend of intuitive design and compelling game play driven by cutting edge technical innovation.
Inspired by an original online game concept devised by the BBC, the game has more than 30 battles in a range of theatres of war from the North African desert through D-Day to the to the snowy Ardennes mountains where the Allies battled to repel the final German offensive.
The team at Slitherine worked with Professor John Buckley, Military Historian at the University of Wolverhampton and a keen wargamer himself, to make sure that the strategy, tactics, scenarios and available firepower of the battles fought in WW2 were turned into realistic AI behaviour, powering expertly crafted battles.

Best iOS Tactical Wargame
Hands down - best on iOS for WW II wargame. I grew up on Avalon Hill games, and this is the best hex based, digital wargame I have ever found. It is a little different than the old table top games, but there is still enough differentiation between different units and armor to be quite realistic while still retaining a high level of playability. The price is a bit high compared to the cost folks are used to paying for an iPad game, but is ABSOLUTELY worth every penny. The expansion modules give you dozens of hours of offline play potential, but these are just a good way to get experience to play the dozens of multiplayer, PBEM scenarios that you can okay against people from all over the world. These are free and you have access to challenge other players or accept challenges and "pass" turns back and forth from directly inside the game. I've played this for three years now and will likely play it for many years to come. I cannot recommend it highly enough if you like wargames!
I've been playing strategy war games my entire life...
As a kid I started with the board games Risk and Stratego, moved to all the versions of Axis and Allies and Shogun, Fortress America graduating to Avalon Hill games.
I played and loved strategy games from Sea Battle on Intelevision to games on Nintendo, Sega to Allied & Panzer Commander on PS2 to PS3 to all sorts of games on the computer (Age of Empires, Command & Conquer, Civilization, etc). I love anything WWII, be it RTS, turn based or first person shooters like the Medal of Honor and Call of Duty games.
This game, "Battle Academy", is one of my all time favorites! The graphics are great, the maps are detailed, it's easy to learn, there are any different pieces and units to play and it lasts a long time. And now that users can make battles, it may never end. It's like paying a strategy hex game like an Avalon Hill game or Panzer Commander but the pieces are little troops that actually move and look life like when they shoot. When the tanks and vehicles are destroyed they burn on the battle field. The dead troops bodies remain on the field. Buildings get destroyed, woods burn; its just wonderful. When I discovered it, it was everything I was looking for in a game.
I'd love to see more wars recreated with this kid of game play/interface. How about creating an authentic WWII navy battle game or other sea battles from other centuries.
Thank you Slitherin for making such an awesome game!
I've played strategy games all my life + I'm a history nut. I started playing Axis and Allies when I was seven. With that said I am very critical of such games. At first I really debated with myself if I should get this game due to the price. I finally bit the bullet, it and it paid off. Excellent details and great historical accuracy (excluding a few "what if" campaigns). I would recommend buying it with Battle Academy 2. Be warned though, if you buy it you MUST commit to it long term. All in all an excellent strategy game.
