My 5 year old son adores this app
Yes, it is a huge download, and yes, it is $10. But my son can't get enough of it. We downloaded it when he was four and he is turning six now. I just came back to download it to his new mini and I was surprised at the overwhelmingly negative reviews. The amount of information in this app is tremendous and worth the money--at least it has been for us!
When we first downloaded it, I think he was able to try one body system before we had to pay anything. He really loved it, so I decided to take a chance on the high $10 fee, and I'm glad I did. So if you have the space on your iPad (it is huge when completely loaded, 935mb) and you have an inquisitive child, it might be worth it. The language goes over his head regularly, but he doesn't seem to mind--he understands enough of it that it keeps him coming back. So is it perfect? Definitely not. . . But it's also been worth the $10 for us a few times over, and overall I'd recommend it for any child through age 10-11 who is interested in the human body and how it works.
Good concept, poor execution
App is aimed at children and based on cartoon from the 80's. I loved it when I was a kid and looked forward to let my kids experience the same joy I had watching the original series.
Here came great disappointment. For $10 I have expected much better quality. While I understand free apps require sign up (you have to support your efforts somehow) this is unacceptable for paid content.
Systems are explained using a lot of big word - way too much and too fast for kids to understand. Also lack of pronunciation is a big miss.
Organization of content is ad hoc. It's not a reference neither some kind of flowing story. Kids click on few things get bored and leave the app.
I'm going to dig up the old VHS tapes with original series and have them watch it. IPad offers so many creative ways to present knowledge and it seams like kids will learn more from watching tv.
I hope dev team comes up with some ideas on how to keep kids engaged long enough to learn the concepts and vocabulary.
Good app would get the 5 star rating if you didn't have to pay so much for the other systems or more were included in the free version.
