Working well for me
Update: my first impression comments are mostly still true, but I've dropped a star because the reading app is too basic, especially needing bookmarks and better search. And I was expecting to see more publishers added. Still good for a heavy, eclectic, non-best seller reader like me.
The app could use some polish, more like the Kindle app (which took many updates to get decent), but it does the job ok for me on iPhone 5 and iPad mini. I read a lot and quickly found 20+ books I would probably have bought on Kindle. So limited publishers is not a big concern. Like Netflix, if you only want top or current items, you will be disappointed. I read more from back catalog nonfiction anyway. I will probably still buy 1-3 Kindle books a month to get specific books I want. But fewer than the 3-5 I buy now, thanks to this service for nine bucks a month. I do travel overseas but website says that downloaded books are ok. I will see, but with 50+ Kindle books on my devices, I will always have something to read.
Avoid this app!!
It just doesn't work correctly. I'm not sure what these other reviewers are experiencing but my app on my iPad and iPhone the app doesn't sync correctly with the books. I started reading two separate books and the app froze and then gave me an error message that the books were no longer available. I had already downloaded about 15 books on my devices so i could read on planes this week and suddenly they're all gone. AND NO LONGER AVAILABLE.
Also, you can subscribe right from the app for $9/month but cannot cancel your subscription from the app. It must be managed from your iTunes account "on your computer", not even from the iTunes app on the iPad.
I wish so badly this app worked. I wanted it to work. I read about 4 books a week minimum and thought this was perfect. Not the case yet.
Customer service?? Doesn't respond except for a canned reply stating they can't respond to everyone because of so many respones needed. That should tell you something right there.
In summary: I tried it. It didn't work. I cancelled my subscription going forward, so I'm out $9 fpr the ability to read four chapters in total.
There are so many resources available that I can easily access and move through with ease! For being a student (and just someone who genuinely loves to learn) I love this app for being so easy to maneuver around and finding helpful information from documents to power points or even virtual books. It would be nice though if the loading process was more accurate and faster when searching for specific items. Also it'd be lovely to have a more organized display of the items in the user's library. Other than that a special (maybe seasonal?) discount on the subscription would be great!
