Square Enix's fresh-faced hit The New York Times called “one of the best role playing games ever designed for anything” has busted onto iOS in a big way, with a slick and addictive new combat system, eye-popping HD art, and (of course) plenty of zetta awesome reasons for longtime fans to double dip.
Arm yourself with psychic superpowers and battle your way through a 7-day gauntlet of action: the Reaper’s Game.
Welcome to Shibuya, a mishmash of attitudes and styles in the heart of Tokyo.
A boy named Neku wakes up in a crowded intersection, alone and unaware of how he got there. Then, he receives a weird text: “Clear this mission...or face erasure.” With that, Neku is thrust into a life-or-death Game that sends him scrambling down streets paved with one riddle after another...
What is the Reaper’s Game? Why is Neku a Player, and what is he playing for? Will the Game really end if he survives all 7 days? Another mystery is always around the corner.
- Intuitive, addictive combat with a twist
Activate your combat abilities, or “psychs,” with simple touch commands like tapping, slashing, and dragging. Comfy with that? Control Neku and his Game partner on the same screen and take the combat up a notch. Like loot? Boost your item drops in battle with the revamped Fusion system.
- Deep replay value
Finish the main story to unlock a hilarious bonus chapter, more quests and items to find, new combat challenges, and secret reports that flesh out the story even more.
- Explore a living, breathing city
Neku’s sprawling world is based on the real-life Shibuya in Tokyo. Visit real locations and absorb some real Japanese culture through a hip fantasy lens.
- Redrawn art and Retina display support
Enjoy the game in full HD on your Retina-enabled iPhone 4 or later device. Art and animation across the game has been redrawn just for this release, making combat a beautiful experience. This is how all 2D classics should look.
- The ultimate soundtrack: 60 songs
Composer Takeharu Ishimoto’s complete, sonically sublime soundtrack is included right in the game with high-quality audio and full vocals, including remixes and new songs.

Wow, didn't think it was possible.
I have beaten this game 3 times on my DS. And just for the sake of that, I bought this for the holiday sale. Boy, was I not disappointed. This is an EXACT port of the original. The dual screen scenes are covered up extremely well, which was one of my main concerns. The only complaint is that your partner comes in as a "tap on enemy pin", which removes the usefulness of some pins and also left me a bit disappointed. I would've liked it better if there was the branching combos on the upper part of the screen rather than just tap the enemy constantly. Other than that, EVERYTHING is brought back, the game is in noticeably higher quality, and most important of all; it runs seamlessly. Absolutely perfect. I have been playing for 4 hours and experienced NO lag whatsoever. Also, this is a better choice to buy it on the App Store, since TWEWY is extinct at normal game selling stores and is sold for around 20-40 bucks on the internet. Bottom line; BUY IT.
Great Game, Mediocre Port
I spent 1/2 my time playing this game wondering why there items to boost the non-attack stats of your partner. Turns out, the game is a port. They didn't change the items to account for the fact that your partner is basically an ability. On top of that one of the last battles wasn't properly made for one screen. It was made possible but idiotic.
Other than that this is one of the best RPGs I have ever played. The combat system is good. The story and characters are fantastic. The characters are very real which is uncommon in an RPG. Everybody has their own relatable issues that make them compelling even some of the villains. The story is fantastic and compelling. It always leaves you one step short of understanding what's happening and builds up to a great ending.
I really want to give it more stars for the sake of the story, but some of the issues with the port really made it hard to enjoy a lot of the actual gameplay.
Great game, but crashes a bit...
I'm a bit new to TWEWY since I never played this game on the DS, but I must say the game is well made. I enjoyed the gameplay, storyline, characters, and anything else that I look for within a game. However, I do find it a bit frustrating when I just finished a boss or was close to wrapping up a chain of noise or watching the story unfold then all of a sudden, the game decides to freeze or just crash and kick me out of the app completely. I'm willing to rate this app 5 stars, but I need the DEV folks to look into this issue a little bit more. Overall 4/5 for now.
