HORN is a 3rd person action adventure game - a completely unique experience where anyone can fully explore and enjoy a beautiful and engaging console-style world, all controllable by touch gestures.
You play as a young blacksmith's apprentice named Horn who wakes up to find your village and lands over run by large fantastic, and sometimes humorous, monsters. It is revealed these creatures are actually the people and animals from your village transformed by a curse, and you alone have the power to free them. On your incredible adventure you carry the loud-mouthed head of one such fantastic creature with you - a somewhat uncooperative and ill-tempered but grudgingly helpful sidekick. Along with this new companion you must use your sword, crossbow, trusty musical horn, and wits to explore the lands, defeat the enemies, and solve puzzles in your quest to undo the curse that engulfs your homeland.
∗ Accessible controls that anyone can use- walking, jumping, crawling, even grapple hook, are all performed with intuitive gestures
∗ Freely navigable console-quality detailed world- go wherever you want; not confined to limited path or rail
∗ A rich and unique fantasy world
∗ Touch-friendly melee combat and crossbow style weapons
∗ 3 unique and beautiful lands to discover
∗ Endlessly escalating challenge modes
∗ Hidden side content to discover
∗ Score written by award winning Austin Wintory and performed with full live orchestral
What's New in Version 1.7
- Fixed the crash for devices running IOS7
- Fixed the quest mode bug causing a black screen after level 27
Console adventure, crafted for iOS
Graphics: off the charts!
Navigation/controls: easy to pick up and your fingers aren't constantly getting in your way
Gameplay: smooth, very fun and interesting to play for short or long bursts.
Music/sounds: the cherry on top.
Just beware, since the graphics are so rich it will drain your battery pretty quickly!
Edit: after playing the game more, there is one part of the gameplay that really annoys me. When you are in battle with a pygon you have no way of blocking attacks, your only chance of defense is moving one way or another. Not only are these moves limited by how many you can make in a certain amount of time, but they also lag. You could be slashing your sword at the enemy and notice they are about to attack, but you can't move until every "swipe" motion you've made for the sword is played out. This can be really annoying because I am sitting there pressing the arrows furiously and nothing happens until he stops with the sword. You should be able to override that by pressing the arrows to move since that is your only possible defense!
Excellent game, but...
I wish that I could give tho game five stars, but there are two issues which prevent me from doing so.
Firstly (and most importantly), the constant crashing must be fixed. I can't stress how frustrating it is to be trying to accomplish something and the app keeps crashing at the list in opportune moments. I'm playing on a 4s, with the latest operating system and every other app closed, yet the crashes only grow more frequent.
Second, there should either be a manual save or a frequent auto save which notifies you when it saves. This issue is particularly stressful when paired with the constant threat of a crash.
Don't get me wrong, aside from these two things, the game is fantastic. It has a great storyline, stunning graphics, neat controls better suited to this particular game than a joystick would be, a beautiful score and excellent voice acting.
It should get a 5/5, but it needs a little work.
Hopefully I can revise this review soon.
I haven't found any problems at all through playing Horn (in both modes available). But, I do implore you to make sure your device is compatible before downloading so you aren't disappointed.
In my opinion, this game works wonderfully and smoothly without joystick controls. It really captures the kind of freedom I like with 3D games, and the voice-acting and plot are superb as well.
After reading quite a few mixed reviews, and debating over whether or not to purchase it, here I am. I highly recommend Horn to anyone who enjoys Unreal Engine games.
Thanks for listening! :D
P.S. You can always read more reviews about a game to get a better idea of what it's like.
P.P.S. If I sound over-excited, that's because I am! I'm also striving to be as helpful as possible, so please don't mind my spontaneous turn of phrase.
