Love RSS feeds? So do we!!
RSS feeds are a great way to follow updates on your favorite website. However, most sites set up their feeds to only show a portion of each entry, you know, to get you to click through to their actual website. We find that really annoying, and we're sure you do too.
Which is why, unlike other RSS feed readers, that either push you into a browser (in-app or otherwise), or depend on third party text parsing services and require you to be online to fetch the full text of one article at a time (which makes it no different from having to click/tap through to a website), in lire, you get your favorite RSS feeds as they should've been. You don't need to click through to any website (though, you do still have the option to, if you really wanted). It takes your favorite partial feeds, does it's magic, and converts them in to full feeds, so you don't have to click/tap on those annoying 'Read more' or 'Continue reading' links.
Once they're cached, you don't even need to be connected to read your full-text feeds.
What's New in Version 1.9.35
- Fixed a bug that prevent the unread count badge (if enabled) from being updated after a background refresh.
- Added ability to clear images, bookmarks, and articles individually. Look for the new options in Setting > Caching Options
Great app to keep you up-to-date
Lire is indeed a great app that does what it claims to do: that of being a clean and powerful RSSfeed reader. No need to worry about going online to read the full article: all is cleanly packaged for offline reading. Good for picnickers, busy people and some of us who are often out of network range.
One aspect I need to point out is its accessibility: the developer seems to care so much about this that this app deserves all my five stars and wish there were more of them! In the previous editions, I once complained about crashes when using Voiceover. The developer addressed this issue plus fixed one annoying bug that would not let you open the last feed in a list.
Finally, I always use this app and placed it in my dock. If ever I could mention one app that I could not do without, then Lire is the one. Keep up the good work, especially paying atention to accessibility. We support this app and thumbs up to LIRE!!
Lire is a highly-configurable RSS reader that does not necessitate using an external account, such as the ill-fated Google Reader. It boasts many settings, yet they are skillfully organized so as not to overwhelm the user. Article and image caching can be turned on or off; read articles can be kept for varying times or easily deleted entirely; articles can be saved for retrieval via Dropbox using Kindle or epub format; a host of sounds can be turned on and off; articles can be bookmarked for later reading. Of special interest to visually impaired users is robust VoiceOver accessibility. Support questions are answered speedily, courteously, and clearly. Updates occur frequently but are never capricious. They address not only bug fixes but also genuine enhancements, showing a commitment to true development.
This app quickly became my #1 App. It does what it says and it works unlike some other "Reeder" apps. No reader or feedly account necessary. Great app. Looking forward to an update one day that allows you to add personal notes to an article when you save to pocket or Instapaper.
