Interesting Concept And Good Use of Carnival Setting
If you play hidden object/puzzle games, then you already know what to expect and how to play this one. To set itself apart, this one makes good use of the spook factor that can be found in a carnival or "other worldly" carnival. The story had a couple good twists to keep it interesting, too.
The game does suffer a few times from "running around just for running around" a.k.a. "Just why could I not get this item a moment ago?" as most of these games do; it was particularly noticeable at the very end, when there seemed to be no real challenge, just running back and forth between locations. However, those moments were comparatively minimal for this type of game, and offset by the engaging atmospheres.
Overall, if you like the hidden object/puzzle game format, then this is one worth playing.
Not bad but...
I just finished The Carnival HD and by comparison The Room and The Room 2 are head and shoulders above this one in graphics, puzzle quality and overall entertainment. If you want the real excitement play the two Room puzzles from Fireproof Games first. Then play this one until The Room 3 is out. And, I pray there are many MANY more The Room puzzles or anything else from Fireproof. Yeah, the story line on The Carnival HD connects much better and is coherent to the game play but that's part of the magic of The Room games. You don't need a story line to be completely enthralled. I'm just an average puzzle game player at best and even with the story line I was never more than amused by the Carnival HD. But it was definitely more fun than a poke in the eye.
Loved the monkey
This is your basic hidden object game with puzzles mixed in. The graphics and music are engaging but even on advanced mode this game was kind of easy. I usually have to get help or skip puzzles but I actually played without skipping one. There is a hint button that if you push it will tell you what direction to go in and won't drain the hint unless there is an action to do that you missed. My favorite part of the game was the use of a circus monkey to get things you couldn't reach, I only wished they had made it less obvious by saying, use the monkey... Jeez let me at least figure it out on my own! The the monkey was super cute and the animation with him was fun.
