Duolingo is changing the way people learn languages.
With Duolingo, you learn a language completely for free. You have fun while you learn, leveling up and competing with friends.
Yeah, it's pretty sweet.
What's New in Version 4.5.4
Bug fixes and performance improvements.
Love it except the speech portion
I really enjoy this app for practicing my Spanish skills, I think it's a fun way to learn and I wish I had it to study with when I was taking Spanish classes. However, in some of the activities it has you speak your response. I like this idea, but the speech recognition needs improvement. Often it will tell me I am not saying the correct thing, and when it shows me the correct response, it was exactly what I was saying. I speak loudly, clearly, and slowly, but it just doesn't seem to hear it right. If that could be improved I think this app would be perfect. I would like similar apps for all sorts of topics, definitely a fun way to learn.
A few bug/feature fixes needed.
This app is very good for practicing Soanish, but it's not great at teaching new grammar concepts.
Additionally, there are several bugs/flaws to the app design:
-has a % fluency feature, but almost NEVER updates and there isn't a way to look it up on your smartphone
-it insists that you need to practice WAY too many different concepts each time you open the app. To get users feeling good about their practice efforts only suggest 3-5 areas of practice per day instead of almost everything worked in up to that point. It's not a realistic goal, especially if you've set your goal at only 15 minutes a day.
-the app has a word cloud in which you pair the words with the same meaning, but often leaves words at the end that do not mean the same thing, but the user must choose them to move past that screen. That's confusing for people who have a tenuous grasp on the language they're practicing and don't need conflicting input on word meanings.
Overall, good for practice, but not learning. Thanks. Looking forward to future updates.
Unable to update to the new version
I love this app so much, it is amazing. But I wanted to update it and now instead of an icon with "Duolingo" under it, there is this white something that mostly shows up when you're installing an app on your phone with "Installing" under it. I tried to update couple of times, but it won't, I tried deleting it couple of times in order to download it again, but it won't. Can you please fix this? And will I lose my progress? I would not be happy if that were to happen.
Thank you in advance
