AOL needs to help us target the news

dbrown1948

I am a long-term main subscriber to AOL because they were there for the "people" at startup. I am confident they work well behind the scenes to try to ensure we have a safe experience. (Knock on wood) we have not had to clean up our systems due to back doors like so many other software apps. People do not even laugh at the fact that I have an all email address because all the other ones are good and yet AOL delivers consistently. Thank you.
I know software has the capability to zero in on our preferences for news however I would sure like to be able to have more influence on it myself. In the world of news and critical events I want to absolutely lower (or zero out) any of the "important" stuff about who is going on vacation, who is breaking up, who walked a "red carpet" with whatever adjective some reporter wants to assign. With all the things going on in the world, I hear a radio highlight and I really dislike checking in on the news to read more about it and I have a hard time seeing it through those "fantastic" popular items as top news hits. This should be an upfront capability or banner available at any time and not something we have to drill down through weird selections. The news categories need to make it clear what we are getting because many of these even show up in "main."

Good, but lacking

I also have been a long Aol customer. And this app has not crashed on me yet. I use my iPad2 and the newest version iPad on market at this time. But, it still has a long way to go. It doesn't have all the features of a desk top. Your settings are very limited, it doesn't auto save your mail to draft, contacts do not show up as I have them on my desk top. Example: I am a GS leader and send group emails to my parents. My group that I made on desk top doesn't show up here in app. Not sure if you have to remake or add contacts. But, for as long as Aol has been around it should not be lacking on these features. I will say I had made a google account and use their app. Same issues with contacts. Must be an iPad thing. Your bar that you have when writing emails, colors, font style, size, etc.. Doesn't exist on iPad app. Not sure if when you're using a tablet with Microsoft if it shows up. FYI, your cancel button is also your save to draft button. Your setting is limited as well. You have to go to desk top to make changes in areas that the app lacks in. Which is a lot considering. So overall it's a good app that can use some tweaking.

Beware of Privacy Invasions!!

Patient777

Here is the language used in the new privacy agreement, thanks to another good ol’ corporate merger between AOL and Yahoo under Verizon = Oath.
"We may collect the information that you provide to us, such as:
Oath analyzes and stores all communications content, including email content from incoming and outgoing mail. This allows us to deliver, personalize and develop relevant features, content, advertising and Services....We may collect your payment and billing information." A notice of the new privacy “agreement” now pops up upon opening the app with a brief description that conveniently fails to mention just how much your private info. can and will be invaded and exploited. The link to privacy controls in this pop up notice, also conveniently, doesn’t work. So to manage what little you do still have control over, you must dig into your settings to discover how. Yet there is no protection from having your data collected and stored including all of your email content! This is an outrage! Protect your right to privacy and boycott Oath, AOL, Yahoo, Fakebook, and all other big tech that is exploiting you!
