Metromile Smart Driving App
Open iTunes to buy and download apps.
The Metromile smart driving app makes owning a car easier, less expensive, and more enjoyable. Features include street sweeping alerts, a car finder, and daily driving insights.
Sign up for a free account to receive the Metromile Tag, a device that connects with your phone via iBeacon technology and enables the app to show you:
- Miles driven and gas costs
- Details for each trip, including customized categories and labels for end points
- Your car’s location (if you’ve forgotten where you parked)
- Alerts to move your car if parked in a street sweeping zone (currently in Chicago, Los Angeles, San Diego, and San Francisco)
Our per-mile car insurance customers receive the Metromile Pulse which plugs into your car’s OBD-II port and provides additional features like monitoring car health, decoding those pesky check engine lights and the ability to contact our on-staff mechanic.
Visit metromile.com to sign up for either per-mile insurance or the smart driving app. Currently, both devices are available in California, Illinois, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Washington. If elsewhere in the United States, sign up for our waitlist to receive a notification when Metromile is available in your area.
Note: not all makes and models are compatible.
What's New in Version 1.5.9
- Fixed a third-party issue related to registering a device for push notifications.
- Fixed an issue for Pulse users where the Location Services banner is always on if the app has been given 'While Using' privileges and the app enters the background.
Great rates but...
Since joining Metromile about nine months ago, their devices have killed my battery three times.?Each time after contacting the company I received the same response, "we are very sorry to hear that and we understand your frustration. May I ask how old was your battery is?" Well, my battery was brand-new the very first time it happened. I'm definitely not the only one this is happened to. If you look at their blog site you'll find many other people who have had the same problem. Metromile should be trying to find a solution to this problem but apparently they don't see this as a serious issue!
Great, but no mileage totals
Love the whole pay-only-for-what-you-use idea and the app gives me so much info like trips, gps, and car diagnostic codes.
But, inexplicably, when showing trip info, it doesn't total the number of miles driven for the day. It's the single bit of information that's relevant to my bottom line. Average MPG, time, and fuel costs are nice and all, but I REALLY want to know how many miles I'm going to have to pay for this trip.
This review is for the insurance more than the app. If you don't drive much but aren't ready to give up your car, get a quote from these guys. My wife commutes 30 miles a day and I drive on weekends, mostly. Monthly premiums vary with how much we actually drive, of course, but so far we're saving $60 - $70 a month compared to our old policy with Progressive. That's some real money! No conventional insurance carrier could touch that.
