The Metromile app helps make owning a car easier, less expensive, and more enjoyable. Review your driving stats, get insights into your car’s running condition, and even find your car if it’s missing.
Sign up for an account to receive our Metronome, a device that plugs into your car’s diagnostic port, which then allows the Metromile app to show you:
- Miles driven, MPG, and fuel costs
- Interpretations for ‘check engine’ lights and the ability to contact our on-staff mechanic with questions
- Details for each trip, including customized categories and labels for end points
- Your car’s location (if you’ve forgotten where you parked)
- Alerts to move your car if parked in a street sweeping zone (SF and Chicago only, for now)
...and lots more! We’re rolling out additional features all the time.
Visit metromile.com and sign up for our free Beta program. Currently, Metronomes are available at no cost to drivers (of post-1996 vehicles) in California, Oregon, Washington and Illinois. If elsewhere in the United States, sign up for our waitlist to receive a notification when Metromile is available in your area.
Note: not all makes and models are compatible.

Fun app; car location always wrong
It's a cool idea and I enjoy looking back on past trips, how fast I was going, how long it took, etc. The graphs are pretty intuitive to play with and great for getting a better sense of how much time I spend driving and what routes tend to be faster. I do think the "bubbles" used to visualize how many trips you took, mileage, & your mpg on a given day are totally unhelpful and not at all intuitive, and the car location is wrong, showing a past location, about 90% of the time. It is currently showing a location from 8 hours ago and the frequency of updating seems inconsistent and unrelated to how many trips you take between updates. This is one area I'd love to see them improve. I wouldn't be able to rely on the app as is to find my car if it were stolen or if I forgot where I parked.
Okay but needs some work
I drive a 2010 Hyundai Elantra. The app is not very good at refreshing/updating itself on when I fill up my car with fuel or keeping an accurate reading on the fuel level in my car. Also I believe because of that the MPG reading is always off. The GPS locator is a tad slow at updating itself and sometimes shows my vehicle in random places on the map. I wish the weekly and monthly trends would reflect the start and end of my billing period and not the calendar month that way I know how many miles I have gone to date for the billing cycle. It would be nice to be able to access billing info ie miles driven and charges through the app so you don't have to log on the Internet to access that information.
Needs some work
Now I am not hating on this app, but it does need some work. So any feedback i provide is for delvopers to fix the app. The timing on the tracker is a little off, and sometimes will take hours to update trips. Example I will get back from town and if you open it up it will say your still parked in town lol. Another thing that doesn't work at all for me is the MPG. It can't seem to ever find how much my MPG is weather that be on a short or long trip. Also fuel cost doesn't work on the app as well. Despite those bugs, if they got fixed it'd be a a very reliable app. Everything else seems to work fine on it.
