Shouldn't need newer phone for app!
This doesn't reflect my overall views of Ting which are very positive besides being based in very anti-Christian Canada lol.
But I shouldn't have to have a newer phone to get app.
I have given an extra star because the app is typically a very good alternative to signing in on the website.
I was excited to see the app takes so little memory & thought I could put it on an old iphone 4 since my 6 is very broken right now.
But this app requires iOS 8 or higher & this phone has 7.1.x and isn't updatable beyond that.
Re: phone svc I wish you'd close the gap & offer a couple "plans" or something "unlimited" (up to a limit lol?) or whatever for those who need & use way more minutes than makes this service economically feasible in its current state, let alone having exorbitant data prices for those who really don't go places with free (albeit usually insecure/your device using it is very hackable) wifi and I can't afford home internet service so I generally need phone service with 4GB of data mininum. 5+ is better.
Fantastic customer service
I could not recommend this service more highly. There are quirks with the billing and the app is close to useless; but every time I’ve had an issue the customer service has been out of this world. Completely night and day compared to bigger companies like Verizon etc. Perfect for people who travel: when I’m home my bill is next to nothing and when I’m on the road I still have access to as much data as I need. Love it.
Service is great, app is terrible
This is an extremely rudimentary app with features either being extremely basic or lacking altogether. There is no consistent billing cycle so you never know when you’ll be debited (just when your billing cycle ends which seems to be mostly unrelated to when you’re charged, and certainly gives no predictability for the actual billing dates anyway), and there is no option to manually pay in-app so for anyone budgeting each month, you are essentially at the mercy of random account withdrawals.
With Family Sharing set up, up to six family members can use this app.
