*** WHO ARE THE COUNSELORS? ***
There are over 750 counselors in BetterHelp. These are licensed, trained, experienced, and accredited psychologists (PhD/PsyD), marriage and family therapists (MFT), clinical social workers (LCSW), licensed professional counselors (LPC), or similar credentials. All of them have a Masters Degree or a Doctorate Degree in their field. They have been qualified and certified by their state professional board after successfully completing the necessary education, exams, training and practice. They all possess at least 3 years and 2,000 hours of hands-on experience.
After you sign up, we will match you to an available counselor who fits your objectives, preferences, and the type of issues you are dealing with. Different counselors have different approaches and areas of focus so it's important to find the right person who can achieve the best results for you.
*** HOW DOES IT WORK? ***
You and your counselor will get a dedicated "room", which will be your private and secured place to communicate. This room is open 24/7. You can enter it at any time, from any Internet-connected device wherever your are. In this room, you will write about yourself, the things going on in your life, ask questions and discuss the issues that trouble you. Your counselor will login to the same room, read your messages and respond with feedback, insights, and guidance. Your counselor will help you learn about the issues that hold you back and prepare you to move forward. This ongoing one-on-one dialog is the basis of your work with your counselor. Together you will build towards making a positive change in your life and accomplishing your goals.
*** HOW MANY SESSIONS CAN I HAVE? ***
You are not limited in the number of messages ("sessions") you can have with your counselor. The frequency of your sessions would vary based on your availability, and the interaction between you and your counselor. For example, some people have 3-4 short interactions every week, while others prefer to have one very long and thorough session. You may use the service extensively during time of need and use it sparsely at other times. Your counselor would try to accommodate your changing needs in a timely manner.
*** HOW MUCH DOES IT COST? ***
Many people avoid getting professional help because it can become extremely expensive. We want to make BetterHelp easy and accessible to everyone, so we've created a plan which is simple, predictable, risk-free, and affordable.
Plans range from as low as $35 per week. With any plan you choose, you will pay a fraction of the cost of traditional counseling.
Last, if you accomplished your goals or if you found it to be no longer helpful for any reason, you can simply cancel the subscription. Canceling is easy and done online - there are no hoops to jump through.

I have been using this service for 3 months and was genuinely surprised at the level of help I am able to receive online. I am able to message my counselor at almost anytime and will receive a timely response. Friends of mine who are in actual physical counseling sessions with their counselors, were amazed to learn that I don't have to wait until my next weekly session to talk to or message my counselor, who has made it a point to respond as quickly as possible to my communications.
I haven't used traditional counseling before, and after the service I have received from these fine people so far, I don't think I'll have to.
Customer Service Lacking
I love my counselor on BH, but find dealing with the backend of the app problematic. There is no direct customer service line and seemingly no interest in replying to help emails expediently. I had an issue with my credit card. Did not know that my payment had been declined until my session with my counselor started and I tried to message her. Then a pop-up came up and asked for new cc info. This is a deplorable way to deal with billing issues! You have my email address. Why would you not email ahead of time?? You are dealing with people who are seeking counseling. How could you possibly think this would be an appropriate way to handle this issue? Why would you make a routine procedure more frustrating than it has to be. Inexcusable company policy that needs to be changed ASAP.
This is a life line for anyone who’s drowning in life
I was skeptical at first and didn’t want to pay the fee, but paying the first week; being able to vent and talk and get a 3rd person’s perspective helped so much. It’s online and mobile so no need to drive to an office or anything. And if you need to you can schedule a video chat. It’s perfect, and I’m truly appreciative for what my counselor has helped me with
