HOW DOES IT WORK?
You and your counselor will get your own secure “room”. This will be your private place to communicate day or night, 24/7. You can access this room from any internet connected device, wherever you are.
You can write about yourself, the things going on in your life, ask questions and discuss the challenges you’re facing. Your counselor will login to the same room and respond with feedback, insights and guidance. This ongoing one-on-one dialogue is the foundation of your work with your counselor.
Together you’ll work towards making a positive change in your life, accomplishing your goals and overcoming your troubles.
HOW MANY SESSIONS CAN I HAVE?
You aren’t limited to a certain number of messages (“sessions”). The frequency of your sessions depends on your availability and the interaction between you and your counselor. You may prefer to have 3-4 short interactions per week, or 1 very long and thorough session. You can use the service as much or as little as you like, depending on your needs. Your therapist will work to accommodate your changing needs in a timely manner.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
Many people avoid getting professional help because it can become extremely expensive. We want to make BetterHelp easy and accessible to everyone, so we've created a plan which is simple, predictable, risk-free, and affordable.
Plans range from as low as $35 per week. With any plan you choose, you will pay a fraction of the cost of traditional counseling.
If you accomplished your goals or if you found it to be no longer helpful for any reason, you can simply cancel the subscription. Canceling is easy and done online - there are no hoops to jump through.
YOU DESERVE TO BE HAPPY.

Just What I Need - Therapy in the comfort of my home
The BetterHelp app is great for anyone who wants and/or needs counseling/therapy on their terms, and receive it anywhere you can use a device and/or telephone. And the app is for anyone who doesn’t have the time or resources to physically go meet a counselor/therapist at an office. The app allows users to communicate with their counselor/therapist via text, texting sessions, video sessions, and/or telephone sessions.
After briefly choosing two counselors/therapists that weren’t a good match, I chose Maria to be my therapist. It’s been less than a week since our introduction. As of today, I have texted her daily (she replies within hours) and had one telephone session. Not only is she an experienced therapist, she is supportive, nonjudgmental and a good listener. So far she has helped me create action plans and take immediate steps to start moving forward out of a very dark place. I’m looking forward to our upcoming therapy sessions and my healing. I’m grateful for Maria’s expertise and help, as well as the BetterHelp app.
I didn’t give the app five stars because users can only schedule one session at a time. I would like to at least be able to schedule two sessions at a time.
This is going to be my second time ever leaving a bad review for an app. I downloaded the Better Help app after listening to the Mental Illness Happy Hour podcast for a few weeks, in an attempt to seek affordable and convenient counseling. After a few hours, I was alerted via email that my account had been closed because “concerned counselors” didn’t think this was the appropriate form of counseling for me. However, that is not my issue. My issue was that I never spoke to a single counselor before my account was closed, and this decision was made solely on the questionnaire. I signed up for a week trial and put in my card information so that after the week I could continue my services as I was looking forward to having a counselor again to help me through the rough patches of my illness. I find it completely unethical that your account can be closed without any formal evaluation first. I would understand if after a session or two this would happen, but not before even utilizing the app. I have reached out through their customer service email to see if they are willing to review my case again, in the meantime this is my experience and I will not be updating this review until I hear back from them. What type of counseling service says they can’t see you before even speaking to you? Unethical.
We're sorry you've had this experience. You may wish to reach out to us at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions or concerns.
Quitting Is An Ordeal And Took Multiple Tries And An Email To Customer Service
Tried to go into my account to quit and was told that I had to contact my counselor to do so. This is where the counselor desperately tries to talk you into continuing to pay for a service that you aren’t toying to that simply isn’t helping (in my case- both). After I flatly stayed that I was DONE and STILL wanted to cancel, my counselor said that she emailed me instructions (why isn’t there yet an option to just go into my account and cancel from there???)
At any rate, like a bad penny, I continue to get messages from my counselor “checking in”. I had already jumped through their ridiculous hoops to cancel and finalized it- but apparently it never took effect. At this point I’m annoyed beyond belief (as this service isn’t cheap and I barely used it for the first week I’ve had it... It’s now been at least two MONTHS). I contacted customer service directly and stated in no uncertain terms, “CANCEL IT”. Of course, I had to go through the whole process again- answering numerous survey questions first about why I’m cancelling, about my counselor, how likely I’d be to recommend the service to a friend. After this?? I WOULDN’T. Find a better service that’s worth the money (or at LEAST more competent and customer friendly with a better user interface & cancelation process)!
We listened and have changed our quit process! With feedback such as this in mind, we have changed our cancellation process so you will always be able to cancel your subscription in your account settings completely online without having to talk to anyone. We apologize if this caused you difficulties, and you may wish to reach out to Support at email@example.com if you need any further assistance!
