Tumblr is a place to discover and post about stuff you love, and join communities of people who love that same stuff. It’s pretty neat.

Q: What can I post on Tumblr?
A: Photos, videos, live videos, songs, text—pretty much anything.

Q: Can I make gifs?
A: Yes, you CAN make gifs! You can make them out of videos, bursts, live photos, or just shoot them on the spot.

Q: What’s the deal with “reblogging”?
A: It’s a way to take the stuff you find on Tumblr and make it your own. You can repost other people’s posts to your own blog. You can add commentary if you like. Other people can do the same with your posts. That’s how ideas spread on Tumblr, and it’s how communities form around them.

Q: Who’s on Tumblr?
A: People who are posting and reblogging about interesting stuff that you’re interested in. Politics. Movies. Memes and such. If you’ve ever seen anything interesting on the internet, chances are it came from Tumblr.

Q: How do I talk to people on Tumblr?
A: A few different ways. You can comment on a post, or you can reblog a post to your own Tumblr and add commentary, or you can send a private message. Whatever suits the occasion.

Q: How do I find stuff to follow?
A: Search for whatever you’re interested in. We’ll show you great posts about that stuff, and get you following the people who make those posts. Oh, you can also follow a search itself, and we’ll put sift the best material from that search right into your dashboard.

Q: What kind of stuff are people talking about on Tumblr *right now*?
A: Whatever’s happening in the world. The real world, the world of fiction, the world of pop culture, the world of academics, the world of safety and justice, the world of sports. Whatever world you live in, you’ll find it among all the trending topics in the search tab.

Q: Do all Tumblrs look the same?
A: No! You can totally customize your Tumblr’s appearance, right down to the colors and fonts you use.

Q: How will people find my Tumblr?
A: Tag your posts. Tumblr is full of passionate communities of people who are constantly searching through tags for new posts about stuff they love. Your stuff could be that stuff.

Q: Am I ready to download Tumblr, deepen my perspective, and forever change the way I think?
A: Yes.

Won't open just crashes

The app has gone through many changes, for the better or worse, but one thing that seems to happen over and over is the app loves to crash. Recently, when I go to open the app, it sits on a blank blue screen with your toolbar at the bottom but you can't interact with anything. You can close the app and leave it fine, but it doesn't actually open. And it's not like closing it or restarting your phone works. Instead, you have to delete the app and reinstall for it to work again. I've had to do this three times in the past 24 hours. When you can actually get into the app, often times the app will randomly freeze as you scroll and you have to wait for it to respond again. This happens incredibly often and it's very annoying. Besides fixing these two issues highlighted here, I would like to see the ability to reorganize your blogs in the list. Say, I have blog A, B, and C but I want the order to be A, C, and B. It would be very helpful. If these issues get fixed and there are no other significant problems with the app I will change my rating of the app. If the app didn't crash and freeze I would give it 5/5. They have a good graphic design team that makes the app look good. But functionality is a must.

Overall good but needs fixes.

This is a pretty good app to share photos, gifs, videos and much more. However I understand the Tumblr staff do their very best to satisfy our needs as users, so I think there should be a couple thinks they could fix. For example on a art blog, the artist will share their piece but the quality is somewhat laking before tapping onto it. After tapping it adjusts. Crashes. They actually happen a lot more on the mobile app itself, if I'm on the app for around an hour, some posts will begin to not load at all and the app completely freezes. Happens often. One last suggestion I would like to make is linking accounts. I cannot control my second account as much as I can for my first one. For example I may have likes but I can't follow they same people on my other blog and much more because it is linked. If the Tumblr staff could work on this that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for working hard.

Needs so, so much work

First of all: gotta love all the obviously fake reviews that keep raising the overall stars of this app. Anyone who's actually used it on an iOS device (and compared it to the functionality of the desktop site) knows better than to think it's a 4- or 5-star app. Crashes all the time, at least once every couple of days, and afterwards can't be reopened (i.e. it just sits on a blank blue screen for half a minute, then closes itself) without being deleted and re-installed. Updating the app and/or your iOS does nothing to alleviate the problem.

Plus, the functionality of blogging within the app is awful compared to the actual site. You can't add photos to text posts, add links, or format text; tags are a disaster; the reblog function constantly resets to your default blog; the app often just ??? doesn't post things; you can't check when people tag your blog because the notification system just borks and says "no post found"; there's no way to highlight text from bottom up (top down only - otherwise it endlessly scrolls back and forth); and replies are hit or miss: sometimes they post, sometimes they don't.

Staff/coding team - someone PLEASE try blogging from this app on an iOS device! You will see its bugs immediately!

(Also this is the third review I've left - the other two conveniently disappeared. Let's see if this one sticks.)
