iTunes Review

This album is Mastered for iTunes. Keane has come a long way since its beginnings as a small-town English band covering the likes of U2 and Oasis. It’s been four years since the multiplatinum-selling, GRAMMY®-nominated quartet released a full-length (and a few since the dance-inflected EP Night Train). With a new bassist in the fold, Strangeland finds Keane in full-fledged melodic rock mode. Tenderly delivered lyrics sound positive even when they express feelings of dejection (“Silenced by the Night”) or no longer being able to connect with something special (“The Starting Line,” “Disconnected”). Still, Strangeland opens with the rousingly emotional “You Are Young,” as Tom Chaplin’s soaring tenor delivers uplifting sentiments. Those are echoed on the piano-driven ballad “Watch How You Go”: an album highlight that’s bolstered by cooing harmonies.

No Deluxe, No "Strangeland"

The non-Deluxe version doesn't include the album's title song? That's ridiculous.

Back to basics…i think it's a good thing

I've been reading a lot of review online and they seem to think going back to familiar ground is a bad thing. It is understandable when today everyone wants bands to experiment and yet they are quick to bash a band for a new direction (think Maroon 5 going a little more poppy). But I think in the case of Keane, they made the right decision in making this album more intimate and having the piano drive the sound of every song. It really harkens back to Hopes and Fears but it has the lyrical dominance in Under the Iron Sea and has the really catchy feel of Perfect Symmetry. I like how the songs seem Beatles-y; it really is nice to see the boys bring back the sound they were so famous for originally.

Complete Original

Someone's complaint is that "You are Young" has the same title as the "We are Young - Fun" song?!?!
That is stupid. The two songs sound nothing alike. So many songs have similar titles. I mean queen, Leighton Meester, and Justin Bieber all have songs called "Somebody to Love" does that make them the same? No.
Keane new album is FANTASTIC. So do yourself a favor and buy it now. I've listened to it about 20 times since I bought it

Keane's piano-driven pop/rock is created by vocalist Tom Chaplin, drummer Richard Hughes, and pianist Tim Rice-Oxley, three childhood friends from the small town of Battle in East Sussex, England. Formed in 1997, the group started out as a college-aged cover band. Guitarist Dominic Scott was also part of this early incarnation, having previously played cover songs with Hughes and Rice-Oxley in a band named the Lotus Eaters. Keane toured the East Sussex circuit for several years while internalizing...
