Editors’ Notes

Boiling down the greatness of the Tracks collection into 15 cuts and three bonus tunes, 18 Tracks could be considered an alternate-reality greatest hits album. Tracks features b-sides and previously unreleased songs from Springsteen’s massive back catalog. They were left off his proper albums due not to their quality but their tone; they didn’t fit Springsteen’s vision for the album he was making. The three bonus cuts include a riveting take of “Trouble River,” the noir soul of “The Fever,” and a modern rerecording of “The Promise,” with Springsteen at the piano delivering his most infamous unreleased classic. (The original version has since been released, along with other outtakes from Darkness on the Edge of Town on The Promise.) The highlights here include an early acoustic run-through of “Growin’ Up,” an acoustic version of “Born in the U.S.A” from the Nebraska sessions, the thrilling b-sides “Pink Cadillac” and “Janey Don’t You Love Heart,” and a moody, introspective take on “Brothers Under the Bridge.”

Customer Reviews

As a Springsteen aficionado it feels almost blasphemous to suggest that this isn't one of the better collections of Springsteen's material. But the purpose of this review is simply to correct the genius who posted the summary on Itunes. This is absolutely NOT his first three albums rolled into one. So please, please do not buy it based on that inaccuracy.

Itunes wrong agian

Itunes has the description wrong. this is 16 tracks taken off the 4cd boxset "Tracks" a collection of b-sides and previously unreleased songs plus 2 songs the fever (which is as good as anything he has ever released) and the promise

iTunes corrected it

This is the correct "18 Tracks" release.....includes 3 songs not on the magnificent 66-track opus "Tracks" boxset.: The Promise, The Fever, and Troubled River. The other 15 are also found on "Tracks."

In the decades following his emergence on the national scene in 1975, Bruce Springsteen proved to be that rarity among popular musicians, an artist who maintained his status as a frontline recording and performing star, consistently selling millions of albums and selling out arenas and stadiums around the world year after year, as well as retaining widespread critical approbation, with ecstatic reviews greeting those discs and shows. Although there were a few speed bumps along the way in Springsteen's...
