Much better than I anticipated
I must admit that when I first started seeing the promotions and commercials for this show, I was concerned about what its underlying message would be. When I heard Nikki Blonsky's character spewing out lines such as "Everyone wants us to hate our bodies, but I refuse to" and "I don't want to change; why should I?" I was afraid the series would promote "inner happiness' over physical health in obese young people. That's the impression you get at first, but when you actually watch it, it's completely different. In short, it focuses on a group of teenagers/young adults who join a fat camp and have a whole host of various emotional issues/personality differences to deal with. Especially noteworthy is Nikki Blonsky's role as Will - rebellious, daring, and not afraid to toss out a quick fat joke if it means avoiding the inevitable truths about her own life. She also clashes instantly with a fellow camp memnber, whose motives for being there seem a little foggy since she's half Will's size - and the smallest kid in the bunch. I was impressed with the unique perspective from each character. There's a lot of emotional relevance for anyone who has ever dealt with their weight in any capacity. Whether you're mordibly obese like some of these characters, or wrestling with a smaller number of pounds, you can connect easily with what these people are going through. The writers here have a lot of potential to address the realities of obesity in society, specifically with the younger generations, and if they stay true to the feelings of these characters, they will have a lot to say in the upcoming episodes. The possibilities are definitely there, so go ahead and get the first episode, and see if you like it. I know I did!
its gonna be amazing :)
i watched the first episode and i loved it! Its gonna be a amazing season for this show, and i like the idea of a show about being at fat camp, and seeing different people there:)
