The story happens in a single night in Chennai.
It’s the month of Aadi, with its colorful serial lights and intermittent rains.
Surra (Sunderrajan) arrives in Chennai at 6.30 pm. He has an early morning flight to catch. He is on his way to Saudi to make his riches.
For the night, he is to stay with Maarthandan, the man who is going to marry Suraa’s sister. Suraa dislikes Maarthandan but is forced to hang out with him for the night.
While Suraa feels like a hero, Maarthandan to him is the born loser.
Suraa meets his agent who informs him that there are certain rules in Saudi. The most important being – he can’t drink in Saudi.
Suraa is shocked. This plays in his mind and he starts turking for a drink. He convinces Maarthandan to take him to a wine shop. A reluctant Maarthandan agrees and they head out.
All wine shops are closed.
It’s the day before elections and the whole city is dry.
Suraa is upset beyond measures and this drives him to search for alcohol in the city.
Here starts the journey of Suraa and Maarthandan as they plumb the depth of the city for alcohol. They meet a bunch of quirky charcters like a midget bootlegger, an independent politician, a tough as nail lady SI, an arsonist, a gang of Anglo Indian biker boys etc. All the while Suraa and Maarthandan have to confront their personal conflict.
They are joined in their journey by Saro, a young girl who is depressed by the fact that she has failed her 12th exams for the third time.
The situation explodes when Suraa has a run in with Prince, the afro haired owner of a gambling den.
Will Suraa and Maarthandan resolve their differences? What happens to Saro? Most importantly, does Suraa get his quarter cutting?
