About Rohey

Rohey are an Oslo, Norway-based band whose progressive R&B is part of a lineage that includes '70s jazz-funk and fusion, '90s acid jazz, and 2000s neo-soul and broken beat. Keyboardist Ivan Blomqvist, bassist Kristian B. Jacobsen, and drummer Henrik Lødøen support the strong, faintly smoky voice of Rohey Taalah, a singer comfortable with no-nonsense ballads and complex uptempo numbers alike. The musicians met at the jazz conservatory in Trondheim and signed to the Jazzland label after they developed original material and played club dates and festivals across Scandinavia. Preceded by the singles "Is This All There Is" (which resembled a Mint Condition-versus-Hiatus Kaiyote soundclash) and "I Found Me" (an empowerment anthem in the realm of Jill Scott's "Golden"), the band released their debut album, A Million Things, in 2017. BBC and Worldwide FM DJ Gilles Peterson was among the set's early supporters.
