Out of this world...

The term 'amazing' is such overused hyperbole in just about every music review you'll read in any publication, but this is one instance where 'amazing' is oh so fitting. Picking up where they left off on 'Neon and Ruin', Slender Means come back with an even more polished, even bigger sounding record. I am loathe to compare bands (especially bands near and dear to my heart) to other bands, but for the uninitiated, Slender Means could be on a bill with U2, circa 1987, and not sound out of place. The only difference, however, is that Bono couldn't carry SM vocalist Josh Dawson's jockstrap. Take that. For those that have been with this band since the beginning (and with Lightheavyweight prior to that) you won't read any reviews, you'll just buy it. For those that have never heard of Slender Means, this will be the best record you buy in the past (or next) 2 years. Believe that. (Do yourself a favor and visit some of SM's back catalog) From the opening 'All in All' to the epic'ly beautiful ender 'This is Love' - Adrift In The Cosmos is, truly, an 'amazing' record.

Adrift in the Cosmos

Another excellent effort by these guys. An album of songs with catchy hooks and solid lyrics that showcases the same effortless musicianship of their first album. It really blows my mind that these guys have not gotten big yet given their very radio-friendly sound. A friend compared them (favorably) to the Killers with a lead singer with a better voice and I'd say that's a reasonable comparison. Whatever the case, they've got a great sound.

Just had the opportunity to just catch them at a CD release show (where I picked up the CD, since it wasn't up on iTunes yet) in Seattle and recommend doing so if they come to your town. They sound as good live as they do on the album - have been able to catch them a couple of times so far. I certainly look forward to catching them again soon.
