Breach fits squarely within the parameters of the thriller score but manages to sidestep its most tired clichés — Mychael Danna largely eschews de rigueur electronic rhythms and textures in favor of simple piano melodies, sinister strings, and atmospheric woodwinds that nevertheless convey the necessary tension. In fact, Danna's minimalist, Philip Glass-inspired approach derives suspense from the absence of familiar genre tropes — its cerebral intensity keeps the listener off balance even once the unexpected becomes expected.
Great Music for a Great Film
This soundtrack uses wonderful piano music to create a variety of moods and feelings. The music gives a sense of mystery and espionage, which is exactly the purpose in this amazing film. The music completes the movie and is a work of art.
Mychael Danna is one to watch!
I like the intricacy of this score, and I also really like how Danna continues to surprise me with each score. He's one of those film composers like Marcelo Zarvos, Patrick Doyle & Kerry Muzzey who continually do new & interesting things with each project they take on. The music can be intimate or sweeping or melancholy or stark, depending on the visuals we see. Check out my iMixes for some more great film music.
This music "nails" the theme of this movie.
The tension, spookiness and wonder of this movie is brought out by this music. It is haunting, mysterious, and beautifully reflects the pool of emotions and concerns that were acted out in the movie. It is basically, but not always, classical music or symphonic, traditional instruments, like strings, piano, wind section and poignent sections of harp. But it doesn't really sound "classical" because it throws in lovely creative twists and turns of intriguing sound and damp color......Wonderful soundtrack.
