Album Review

MxPx made the leap to the major leagues in 1998 with Slowly Going the Way of the Buffalo, their first album for A&M Records. The switch to the majors really doesn't make a difference, to tell the truth — the group turns out another set of speedy, raucous punk-pop numbers that are fueled as much by attitude as songwriting. There's plenty of filler, but the record moves so quickly, it doesn't hurt the album, especially since the good songs do work their hooks into your brain. Listeners who don't care for late-'90s retro-punk won't have their minds changed by Slowly Going the Way of the Buffalo, but anyone who's followed MxPx or has a fondness for post-Green Day indie punk-pop will enjoy the record.

this is an incredible cd!!!

raw, honest, indie pop punk.

when i was 13, i moved to tacoma, washington, and i was given two cds by my new neighbor to listen to. they were "dookie" by green day, and this record right here. "slowly going the way of the buffalo" is a unique blend of pop punk elements, with raw, independent production. most of the songs are catchy, and while it may not be exceptional material musically, it's a good, solid release, and it will always have a place on my list of lifetime favorites. also, metalposer has had his review posted twice, which i think is unfair, as that gives an unfair representation.

really good-i think one of thier best. The Final Slowdance is a great song, as are most of the songs on there, altogether an awesome LP. Totally worth the money.

The Christian-themed punk-pop outfit MxPx formed in 1993 in Bremerton, WA. Originally dubbed Magnified Plaid, the group launched while its three members -- vocalist/bassist Mike Herrera, drummer Yuri Ruley, and guitarist Andy Husted -- were still attending high school. The moniker was later shortened to MxPx after Ruley abbreviated the name on some show flyers; poor handwriting saw the periods being interpreted as x's instead, and the name stuck. Wielding an energetic sound that was inspired by the...
