Editors’ Notes

Justified, Justin Timberlake’s debut solo album, posits him as loose, funny and thoroughly assured. Collaborating with the Neptunes and Timbaland, the star displays a high comfort level with Latin-tinged soul, Stevie Wonder-style balladry (“Nothin’ Else”), and updated ’70s pop-funk. If great pop means continued payoff through many listens, as well as the occasional nudge toward the future, call this one just that.
