iTunes Review

Five decades on and the music of Brian Eno is still as challenging and unusual as ever. This collaboration with poet Rick Holland, who has worked with Eno since 2002, is another intricate exploration of words and music. Holland’s focus is science and environment, urban studies and metaphysical lights. Different vocalists are employed for the readings and Eno’s music-scapes travel far and wide. “Pour It Out” features a sweetness, a nostalgic retro sound that chimes like a pop song from the mid-‘60s, while “Glitch” is a tough, brooding piece of jump-cut rhythms, terrorizing keyboards and disembodied vocals. The nearly seven-minute “The Real” drifts in an ambient void that along with “Breath of Crows,” the other extended meditation, creates the heart of the record. The brief imagistic pieces, “As If Your Eyes Were Partly Closed As If You Honed The Swirl Within Them and Offered Me the World” (the title is nearly longer than the tune) and “Cloud 4” are reminiscent of Eno’s most soothing work. But the duo aren’t interested in making anyone comfortable as the spiked interplay of “Multimedia” and “Sounds Alien” make clear.

Not Eno

Eno's music is always art, different, and great. This album may get there with me at some point, but for now it is just not all that appealing. If you like 'Glitch' and are considering the album for this one great piece, know that the rest of album is not anything like Glitch. Mostly poems being read and can't say I'm a big fan. If you are new to Eno, download an older album like 'another green world' (my fav). If you want a newer release that is great, check out the 'small craft milk' album from 2010. This one may grow on me some day, but not likely, it's missing the beauty and freshness you usually get with the godfather of electronica.

beautiful alien landscapes

i feel sorry for the folks who don't get anything out of this record. it's eerie, otherworldly, and just perfect in every way possible. thank you brian for being you. this record can't be rated by fake stars. look up at the sky at night and maybe one of the stars you see in the heavens is this recording in tangible form...there is nothing more i can really say...

different

wow i got to say this is different then what i expected. its a unique sound that seems to be very experimental to me.

Ambient pioneer, glam rocker, hit producer, multimedia artist, technological innovator, worldbeat proponent, and self-described non-musician — over the course of his long, prolific, and immensely influential career, Brian Eno was all of these things and much, much more. Determining his creative pathways with the aid of a deck of instructional, tarot-like cards called Oblique Strategies, Eno championed theory over practice, serendipity over forethought, and texture over craft; in the process,...
