iTunes Review

A blues-rock pioneer, Eric Burdon hit the scene as frontman for The Animals back in 1962. After 10 albums and giant, generation-defining singles like "House of the Rising Sun" and "We Got to Get Out of This Place," Burdon then joined up with funk favorites War; he sang on and produced War's first big hit, "Spill the Wine," and three full albums. Since then, Burdon has consistently worked, collaborating with various players (including Jimmy Witherspoon and Brian Auger), dropping solo albums, touring the festival circuit, and expanding his lengthy acting resume. Now 72, he teams up with Cincinnati garage rockers The Greenhornes, best known as the rhythm section of The Raconteurs. Though just four tracks long and clocking in at less than 20 minutes, this great EP shows a seasoned veteran meeting youthful exuberance, with heavy riffs and charismatic storytelling galore. The Middle Eastern meditation on "Cab Driver" is maybe a little over the top, but all the others are fantastic.

Um yeah! Get it!

Cinci garage rock legends, the Greenhornes, team up with rock legend Eric Burdon of the Animals. Don't mind if I do . . . and you should too.

Burdon & Greenhornes - Must Buy!

from the obviously misplaced iTunes Album Review, there's a natural feeling to this pairing of blue collar UK and American midwestern rockers.

As the lead singer of the Animals, Eric Burdon was one of the British Invasion's most distinctive vocalists, with a searingly powerful blues-rock voice. When the first lineup of the group fell apart in 1966, Burdon kept the Animals' name going with various players for a few years. Usually billed as Eric Burdon & the Animals, the group was essentially Burdon's vehicle, which he used to purvey a far more psychedelic and less R&B-oriented vision. Occasionally he came up with a good second-division psychedelic...
