Real jazz and real talent!

I actually stumbled upon her on MySpace and her voice was so smooth and soothing that I had to find more. This new album is amazing. Her new twists on these classics is fresh, but you can still hear the magic of the originals. I'm so glad I found her. She is one of the best and most underrated vocalists in Jazz. This is actually an authentic jazz album and I love it!

One of my favorites of 2008!

Marilyn has - in many ways - made the album of her career. Light, easy and memorable, Every Time We Say Goodbye is often romantic, nostalgic and uplifting. Tracks such as Do You Know The Way To San Jose are elegant and noteworthy...and standards such as Lonely Town and Autumn in New York are reflective and intimate - bringing a freshness to a genre that can be misconstrued as dated rather than timeless. It appears on this release that Marilyn is working with new musicians - who must be heralded here as well for they possess expertise and precision that drives Marilyn and each other on a steady course throughout. Outstanding!

Wonderful New Collection Of Standards

Similar in theme to 2004's "Nightcap", Marilyn Scott has created another gem of an album in "Every Time We Say Goodbye." As someone who has all of Miss Scott's previous efforts, I must say that this new album is my newest favorite. Her voice could be described as smooth, sultry and smokey, like fine wine it seems to have improved with age. Furthermore, Scott has once again surrounded herself with a wonderful supporting cast of musicians, including Cyrus Chestnut on piano, Paul Bollenback on guitar and a wonderful Ken Peplowski on sax, to name a few. Perhaps the most surprising aspect of the new album are the unique arrangements. Scott treats each of the songs she recorded with due reverence but has clearly put her own musical stamp on each of these offerings. If you are a fan, as I am, of the female voice and have artists such as Krall, Jones, Peyroux or Cassidy in your music library, you owe it to yourself to sample some tracks from this new album. I think you will find another "must-have" artist for your collection. A quick side-note. This album was recorded for the Japanese label, Venus Records, live in the studio over three days last August. The energy this gives each track is magnificent and the production is nothing short of stellar. Standout tracks include "Caravan", "Do You Know The Way To San Jose?" and "Cry Me A River."
