Alicia Not Just Another Diva

Yes, there are lots of versions of I Love The Nightlife, but not like this one. You will really hear all of the vocals and instrumentals parts, like you are back on the dance floor. But don't stop there, this album features some rare gems of Alicia's early works. Body Heat was a minor hit in the eighties and this mix does it justice. High altitudes is a serious tune with some tongue in cheek lyrics, like so much of Alicia's writing it is chock full of double meaning. Take a spin in a dingy bar while listening to the crooning from her Golden Boy and don't forget the mocking Self Applause. And if you are into country then by all means try Just A Little Lovin'. Take the time to listen to some of Alicia's other works, there is something for everyone. This lady is a lot more than her beloved, I Love The Nightlife. A great song, but you have missed out of you stop there with her music.

Nightlife And So Much More!

Wow, I love the sound of this mix. Doesn't sound like the usual canned muzak stuff, but real live vocals meets the band on the road. If you love Alicia's Nightlife song then you will enjoy this version plus her other tunes. This is one Diva who deserves another listen, she is so much more than a one hit wonder. Great sound and even better vocals in my humble opinion. Take the time to really listen, you will like what you hear.

There are better ones ...

This is marked as "remastered," but sounds like the originals were played on an old cassette in a large, empty room and then copied onto another old cassette. It's great to have some new songs from Ms. Bridges as well as some of the originals from her first, classic LP but not sounding this this, I'm afraid. There are other Alicia Bridges collections on iTunes that sound the way they should, which means sounding "good." Her material is too strong and her voice too memorable to deserve anything less than stellar sound.

Alicia Bridges scored big in 1978 with "I Love the Nightlife (Disco 'Round)," a celebratory disco single that reached number five on the Billboard Hot 100. It was her biggest moment in music and made her self-titled debut, released on Polydor, a definite part of the feel-good disco scene of the late '70s. The blues-tinged "Diamond in the Rough" and "Broken Woman" were mildly successful, but Bridges never regained her disco reign. She released one more album for Polydor, 1979's Play It as It Lays,...
