EDITORS’ NOTES

New Jersey's fastest and funniest hardcore punk band upped the production values for its second album, Humungousfungusamongus. The guitar work is more precise and melodic, and the vocals can be more easily heard and discerned. It's a plus when dealing with tunes as irreverent as "Velvet Elvis," "Pope on a Rope," and the manic and melodic "Bugs." The band spoofs itself with the follow-up instrumental "A.O.D. Vs. Son of Godzilla." (As opposed to "A.O.D. Vs. Godzilla" from its debut.) "Pizza-N-Beer" further goofs on the bongos–and–acoustic guitars coffeehouse set. "Yuppie" and "Office Buildings" take snapshots of their home state from the car park. "Surfin' Jew" pays homage to their drummer, and "The Nice Song" was a single. The bonus tracks are especially cool. "Spiderman Theme," "Jeffersons Theme" ("We're moving on up!"), and covers of Kiss ("Deuce"), The Dead Boys ("Sonic Reducer"), The Sex Pistols ("Anarchy in the U.K."), and The Bay City Rollers ("Saturday Night") round out their era.

About Adrenalin O.D.

A suburban thrash foursome from New Jersey, Adrenalin O.D. debuted on a 1982 compilation from ROIR Records which also included Bad Brains and the Beastie Boys. The group, including guitarists Paul Richard and Bruce Wingate plus bassist Keith Hartel and drummer Dave Scott, signed to Buy Our Records the following year, releasing an EP and their debut album, The Wacky Hi-Jinks of...Adrenalin O.D. The LP was a piece of prime hardcore punk, though recorded with no discernible production values. Adrenalin O.D.'s third proper album, Cruising with Elvis in Bigfoot's U.F.O., saw the group change their attack from thrash to more manageable rock & roll tempos, revealing their knack for melody and off-beat themes. After signing to Restless in 1990, Adrenalin O.D. released Ishtar that year and Theme from an I two years later. Still active in 1996, the group issued their sixth overall album, Sittin' Pretty. ~ John Bush
