Reflective, Illuminating Storytelling
Steven Thorn's "City of Lights" consists of a series of autobiographical vignettes which wander and weave from the Eiffel Tower across the Seine and all around Paris.
"The kids were loud and it was late / they were singing songs I knew"
The song seems to be one the kids might have been singing, evoking a Coldplay-esque vibe; it is catchy, ethereal, and luminescent: much like Paris itself.
Repeat listenings are rewarded by the varied soundscapes of reverb-laden guitars and synths as well as the depth of the storytelling. I highly recommend this song.
