About Anna Danes

California-based singer Anna Danes is lyrical performer known for her sophisticated take on jazz standards. Born in Gdansk, Poland, Danes fled the then-communist country as a child, first to Sweden and finally to Ottawa, Canada. She grew up singing in church, and discovered jazz in her teens. Although music was a passion, Danes initially focused her attention on attending the University of Ottawa on a scholarship for ancient history and archaeology. She then went on to earn her law degree at the University of Windsor, after which she practiced for several years. Upon marrying, Danes relocated to Southern California where she worked as an operations manager in her husband's business while raising a family. It wasn't until winning vocal lessons in a local auction that Danes' teacher recognized her dormant talents. Encouraged, she began seriously pursuing a vocal career, and in 2013 she released her debut album Longing. In 2016, Danes returned with her sophomore full-length album, Find Your Wings. ~ Matt Collar
