EDITORS’ NOTES

French duo partners Vincent Jourde (soprano saxophone) and Joffrey Drahonnet (guitar) produce a sound of exceptional clarity and beauty, even as they wrestle with complex compositional forms and ultra-precise orchestrations. They sound like more than two players. Yet they preserve the uncluttered and wide-open texture that a duo can provide, even while darting through an obstacle course like “Suis-moi” or “7.83 Hz.” Drahonnet occasionally over-dubs a solo, as on the bright waltz “A Dream Engraver,” but there’s still an appealingly in-the-room quality throughout the set.
