Customer Reviews

Not the soothing album that Home for the Holidays is

We looked forward to this album, because we loved Home for the Holidays; however, we were disappointed. The playing is top notch (as usual), but rather than producing separate albums (one of Christmas selections and another with a variety of Jewish selections), they yielded to the popular notion of a false equivalence of a major holiday of one faith (with a rich sacred and secular musical tradition) and a minor holiday of another faith (with a rich musical tradition but not one particularly tied to the minor holiday). The attempt to marry the two traditions results in a musical journey akin to a steel ball in pinball machine. There is no unifying them nor stylistic cohesion. Taken separately, the selections are pleasant, but they leave the listener worn out from being bounced around by the ill-conceived package.
