Album Review

Rudy Adrian is one of New Zealand's top sound designers. His music is therapeutic, atmospheric, and so dense that it is almost visible. The Healing Lake is a set of short and mid-length minimalist compositions that are perfect for relaxation and introspection. Deep listeners will feel the tingling in their brains as this psychotropic — almost psychoactive — soundscape envelops them and carries them to the edges of subconsciousness. The deep, melodic synths and drones are warm and inviting; Adrian promises safety on this journey. This CD plays best with headphones and solitude. Candles and incense will enhance the experience further. This CD will appeal to fans of Liquid Mind, Constance Demby, and Jeff Pearce. It is essential for fans of electronic minimalism.

Customer Reviews

Oh yes! One of the good ones.

There's lots of "Ambient Atmospheric" music out there. I collect my fair share of it. As such, I've heard a lot of bad product. However, this music from Rudy Adrian is right up there with the top of the crop. This could be considered "Robert Rich Lite" or even "Steve Roach Lite", but that would diminish his individuality. Rudy Adrian is able to stand on his own beyond the ambient genre' to produce his own flavor of pleasant and fulfilling music. The overall sound is drifting and breath like on it's own, yet it's still able to encapsulate minor melodic flourishes. just enough to break up the potential monotony of flotation which can often be the weak point in this kind of music. Adrian has a good control over this fall back and as such creates a wondrous and spacious sound which is neither overpowering, nor timid. It stands on it's own in a broad category of potential mediocrity. Adrian's able to make you feel like you belong in the submersive environment he presents without making you feel intimidated in the least. Another great release from a gifted composer. :-)
