Customer Reviews

I like it.

I like it. Orchestration and vocals--featuring boy soprano Ty Jackson ("Fern Hill"), tenor John Tessier ("Poem in October"), and baritone Sir Thomas Allen ("Poem on His Birthday")--illuminate poems that span Dylan Thomas's life. Sound quality is fine. The iTunes Store makes a clumsy transition from "Author's Prologue, Part I" to "Part I: Fern Hill" if you listen to those tracks individually. Also, during the prologue spoken parts, you will wish for the poet's own vocal nuances if you've heard him perform his own work (Dylan Thomas at the BBC, for instance). All in all, though, composer John Corigliano, the soloists, the Nashville Symphony Chorus, and the Nashville Symphony Orchestra provide an aesthetic experience that satisfies. It will make you also want to hear, if you haven't already, Corigliano's delightful rendering of a different Dylan--Corigliano: Mr. Tambourine Man (Seven Poems of Bob Dylan), Three Hallucinations (from Altered States).
