Finely played but with a caveat
Francesco Nicolosi plays these Mozart piano variations with great feeling and skill. However, whatever edition was used was obviously not one employing the latest scholarship (such as in the "Neue Mozart Ausgabe" or NMA). The version of K. 54, also known as the second movement of K. 547a (a sonata for piano solo adapted mostly from the violin/piano sonata K. 547), includes some measures that may not be Mozart's own; the "K. 547a" piano-only sonata is quite possibly someone else's arrangement of Mozart's music, and in the variations movement numbered here as K. 54, that individual has added what are widely believed to be a spurious extra variation ("Var. IVb" in Nathan Broder's ed.) and an inauthentic coda. Those additions are included in this recording; the NMA removes them. For someone aware of the facts, however, this still has to be considered an enjoyable recording, dubious additions or not.
