Excellent CD!! Rouse is a very talented and exciting composer. Bezaly performs his Flute Concerto wonderfully. The Royal Stockholm Phil. is first rate as well. My only complaint is the microphone placement for the Flute Concerto as the breaths are quite audible. Doesn't hurt the recording though.
Rouse alternates between aimless noodling and grand hymn-like or percussive statements appearing out of nowhere and ending up in the same place. The whole thing smacks of competent mediocrity. If you like this sort of thing go for Rautavaara or Kancheli: they at least have something compelling to say and can make more than one sound. If Rouse's music were a beverage, it would be lukewarm tea with milk.
