I may get a TON of flak for saying this, but I think that this recording/interpretation is better than Karajan's. The combination of how the hall reverbs perfectly, the clear recording, and how Vanska powers through the piece without excessive bravado, and the overall talent of the musicians. Simply put, I love this recording.
I am going out on a limb too and saying this is one of the greatest recordings of Beethoven ever.
