If you have not discovered Glazunov yet, get this album! You will not be disappointed. I wanted to learn more about Glazunov after reading Testimony (the memoirs of Dimitri Shostakovich). Shostakovich was critical of everybody, so I knew that Glazunov had to have been good by the fact that Shostakovich gave him some credit for skill and ability. The fact is Glazunov was great and this CD helps showcase some of his music: the violin concerto, the Seasons and Raymonda, the Fourth Symphony and Chant du Menestrel ( a cello showpiece). The playing is good and the sound quality is excellent. Glazunov is underappreciated; help change that!

The establishment of the Moscow Symphony Orchestra coincided with the crumbling of the former Soviet Union. The orchestra was founded in 1989 by Ellen and Marina Levine, who had both spent a number of years in the United States working in the fields of advertising and marketing.
