Emma Kirkby Still Shines

Emma's most recent release finds the reigning queen of early music solidly in her element, supported and enhanced by the lute background. To listen to Emma's voice is, as always in her performances, to travel back to the time of the music's origins, and to give insight into how it was intended to be performed. The album first came to my attention after I watched the video-cast "From Printed Page to Performance", a seminar which Emma closed with a performance of "She loves and she confesses too", which is featured on this recording. If you are an early music aficionado, a soprano enthusiast, an enthusiastic soprano, or any combination of those things, I definitely recommend a listen. Kirkby's pure, focused voice is as much a treasure on this recording as it is on her numerous past albums.
