incredible album

when i listen to a new album for the first time in itunes, i only attempt to make one distinction for each song: “is this a song i want somebody else to hear?” if the answer is yes, then i automatically give that song a 5-star rating, otherwise i don’t mark it at all. for me, a good album will have at least three or four 5-star songs.

‘art slave’ has 15 5-star songs, and i want you to hear it.

It is often said that history repeats itself & reincarnations are part of the human & spiritual cycle…well, after listening to, Amalia’s “Art Slave”, this is definitely true in the genre of Funk/Nu Soul and the universal souls she touches…I immediately felt the “spirits” of, Betty Wright, Chaka Khan (Rufus), Joyce Kennedy (Mother’s Finest), Sandra St. Victor (The Family Stand), Grace Jones, Janet Jackson…her resemblance to the legendary Phyliss Hyman further accents the soulful vibrato in her own voice and style…the musical production team of Opolopo is kindred spirited, overlayed with old school/new millennium FUNK arrangements (Digital Underground, Faze-O, Cameo, P-Funk (ALL OF ‘EM), Slapbak, etc.)…”Art Slave” is clearly Funk, Nu-Soul at its best, definitely Grammy material IF the voting power is put back into the hands of the people…may the FUNK be with you!!!

At last Amalia's solo project is out! After you buy Art Slave, do yourself a favor and also check out her work on Opolopo's RF Presents album if you haven't already heard these tracks as well. Amalia is a rare vocal talent. She delivers a beautiful combination of sweetly soulful and smoldering, refined sensuality. The Atjazz remix of All the Funk I Need showcases and highlights this perfectly. Deep, Funky, Electro.
